Rivian App is eating / draining my phone's battery

Yeah I realized it's sucking the crap out of my battery. I force closed it. There's really no reason to leave it open. It doesn't have enough functionality to make it worth leaving on.

for what it’s worth it’s clearly only affecting some users. my ios battery usage reports 4% of usage in the last 24 hours. could be lower but hardly noticeable. guessing the bug is caused by some subtle combination of another or other factors.

i do have location tracking disabled. the car still unlocks when i get near it but i find i get an immediate response only if i wake/unlock the phone. if that works for you, might be worth a try.

That’s a pretty big caveat, and essentially explains why you aren’t seeing the issue.

It isn't a consistent thing. It can work great for a week, but one day your phone will be on fire and you'll know the reason. ?

Turning location off helped significantly with battery usage, though it still is a lot higher than it should be. My Tesla app was negligible, the Rivian app, with location off, is the 3rd highest usage.

I'm not really seeing any difference in app functionality with location off, so I'm not sure why it was using it so much...

I’ve only had my car for a day and a half, but the Rivian app is listed 14th for battery usage and is using 1%. I have location set to always allow. Not sure why it’s working much better for me than others though.

Wonder if it's an iPhone vs Android thing. I'm Android and having issues. Mine is back up to the top user with over 6 hours of active use over the last 24 hours. Obviously I haven't used it for 6 hours, so something is still weird.

Going to try to restrict battery usage and see how that goes.

It reminds me of when (years ago) I first started using Dark Skies for work on my iPhone. Killer app but while it was open, it killed my phone. I actually uninstalled it. Now, years later, it works great. I think that any app that uses a lot of network activity (queries, etc) has the potential of using too much power. There must be some workaround or better management scheme. Hopefully Rivian's dev team figures it out. The app actually still seems like it's in its infancy.

BTW, other than service requests, where does one send feed back to Rivian? You know, bug reports, feature requests, etc.

Ok, do not recommend restricting battery usage. I got two "update failed" notifications last night with obviously no updates attempted. The truck also flashed "driver+ unavailable, service soon" when I went into drive, but that notification quickly went away and won't come back.

These have nothing to do with restricting the background battery usage of the phone app...

Since I am using the key fob more often than not, I just try to remind myself to shut the app down when I'm not using it.

How does one shut the app? turn off bluetooth? Uninstall? i hope there is a way other than those. Thx

iPhone right? Double click your home button (if your phone has one), all open apps appear. Find the Rivian App and swipe up to close it.
