They are unlocked. Press the divot on one side of the handle, and the handle will pop out. Then open the door. This is all by design.
Just out of curiosity, if you’re in Car Wash mode and use the fob to manually unlock (or lock then unlock) does that take it out of Car Wash mode and deploy the door handles? I’d expect that kind of behavior to reduce support calls. Maybe the same behavior occurs from the app (not passively) or if using the RFID card or wrist band.
That’s too bad and it may be the difference between tech-focused people making cars and car people making cars.
I was SO annoyed with myself. The next time we stopped and went through a lock/unlock cycle with the key fob, valet mode was turned off. Yay! Since the car had a dedicated valet key this made perfect sense since it didn’t require the owner to do anything out of the ordinary to get the car back to normal. That, to me, is a good user interface. What would have been better is if the car showed a message on the driver display or center screen, “Unlock with owner fob button to disable valet mode” every time a forbidden button was pressed: glove box, valet, or trunk.
Having hand washed the truck every weekend, car wash mode is a must for any washing activity. If you are not in car wash mode, the charge port door will open every time you splash the touch sensor.
I didn't have that issue when hand washing the truck. I just locked it with the key fob and nothing opens when I am washing (including the charge port)
Good point! That is definitely a key difference...I haven't been doing it locked. But hey, both ways sound like they work...unlocked w/car wash mode or just locked. I tend to be opening doors and compartments in the process so I have always used unlocked and in carwash mode.
