Interesting note: After doing some quick searches, it looks like industry standard bi-level auto rack rail cars are 89' long and vehicles need to be separated by a minimum of 3". Because of the length difference between the R1T and the R1S, this means that a single rail car can only hold 8 vehicles if they are shipping only R1T's but can hold 10 vehicles if at least 4 out of the 10 are R1S's. As an R1S reservation holder, I'm holding out hope that this means there will also be quite a few R1S's on those train cars along with the R1T's. :fingerscrossed:

I just spoke to my guide this morning and he let me know as of last week Rivian has converted to using the railway for transports out of Normal similar to Ford with the Lightnings. This extends delivery from 4-5 days to 7-14 days. My R1T was built last Friday and is currently in staging. I'm located in SoCal so I'm thinking I'll unfortunately be more towards the 14 day mark.

I confirmed configuration June 3rd so it looks like when it's all said and done I'll be getting the keys around the 10-11 week range. So much for my guide hyping me up initially saying 4-8 weeks BUT expects me to get it sooner than that lol.
Well that’s interesting! Maybe it will get to New Mexico faster by train, but doubt it. All aboard!

Same thoughts occurred to me as well. Maybe 40K R1 vehicles produced this year???
I wish! I expect they double every quarter, which means they may produce ~16k this quarter, which would put them in low 30k produced at end of Q3.

Same thing could happen if you got the car delivered and went 200 miles somewhere and got stuck.

You're right, except then I'd be 200 miles from home, not 2000. And to be fair, almost anything that has gone wrong with my ICE SUV can be fixed at a dealership in less than 1 day, until the SC get to that point, we have a long ways to go.

That being said - I'm 100% for factory pickup. I want to put 2k miles on it, know all of the issues (unless major) and open tickets for the local SC to fix.

If a whole train of R1 show up, I'm going to be there looking for my R1S. :CWL:

The answer is that it wasn't manufactured last Friday...
I asked the Guide and he said VINs aren't sequential and is new from the factory. It isn't a R1T that had issues and needed repairs.

I doubt that he is correct about them coming off the line non sequential, that is usually how they isolate vehicles for material recalls when an issue is identified.

Very possible coming of the lot they can be in random order depending what vehicles are pulled from the lot. No real reason to be concerned with when a vin is shipped.

Pretty sure he means RJ.

My biggest reservation with doing a factory drop is what if I get 200 miles home and it dies (I've seen a few in this forum so it's not impossible). Now I have to wait for Rivian to come find me AND potentially fly home or stay weeks until they fix the issue.

I really like the factory idea, but I'm now paranoid. Thanks RivianForums.
It's an adventure vehicle! If it breaks down 200 miles away on the initial drive home... it's part of the adventure! ?

100% fair point.

Besides, I cannot claim to have just spent the last hour designing my 2300 mile trip home. *looks around innocently*

Ah yeah. Reading through a few comments here, sounds like there's a train full of Rivian's heading to CA soon. :please:
I think that’s the case. I have a 93xx vin and my guide hasn’t said it was on a train, but I asked him this morning where the truck was and he said it was in Kansas.

Nieder,
Have you received any updates to where the train is now?

I asked today and he said he didn’t have any updates since the Kansas status on Tuesday.
As far as I know my truck is on the train from IL. I just got an ETA of July 28th from my guide of arrival in CA.
