I seriously doubt the 60-130 mph is an important metric given speed limits and very few people are driving at 120.
It's not important for most cars, but it's important to people comparing $150k performance cars... because they have to justify why they cost more than the $60-80k cars that can do 0-60 within a second or so from Plaid and Taycan Turbo. A Taycan Turbo runs away from most of them after 60mph and the Plaid will make them wonder if they're accidentally pressing the brakes.

A Model 3P is just a second slower than the Plaid to 60, but by the time they cross the 1/4-mile mark, the Plaid is going almost 40 mph faster. That's bonkers... and it's all about 60-130mph. Or, in this case, 60-150mph.

For sports cars, it is absolutely a very valuable metric, and how many ultra-fast cars are ranked.

In the modern world 0-60 numbers are so close they are meaningless when trying to compare. Especially when so many cars are sub 4 seconds now.

There is a track for these races if they care to make it official:

Rivian R1T R1S Who is this tool? "Just smoked a rivian that dared the Tesla Plaid" 1654726749622

And there is the second part of the track:

Usually when some idiot posts about “smoking an X with my Y” they fail to realize they were in a “race” all by themselves. :CWL:

In the area I live, none of that matters. I used to have a really old rusted Oldsmobile omega with a crooked chassie when I was young and didn't mind losing my license. A corvette was trying to pass me for 15 minutes with no luck until I got to my exit. The only thing I was doing better was predicting where the gaps were going to open and close. And traffic was not half as bad as it is today. I don't get this obsession with 0-60 when we are all stuck in traffic.

I understand, and I'm sure a lot of people share your thoughts.

I'm a car guy who's into sports cars and it matters to me. I live in SoCal so I know traffic well. But I'm not in traffic all the time.

Why do people buy Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Ferraris? Because they're fun, and in the rare opportunity you get to drive it like you stole it, it makes it all worth it.

I drive my fun car maybe only once every two weeks (<8K miles in almost 5 years). And I probably hit 18x mph at some point each time. My SUV is a quick one and it is my daily driver. It has almost 600hp, twin turbo V8. I bought the whole car and I'm going to use the whole car dammit :p.

This forum is primarily people who are into EVs (just like Tesla forums). Forums dedicated to sports cars, you'll find completely different types of posts.

I get it. I have allegedly done 160 in 45 mph zone in a modified crotch rocket for the adrenaline rush. Done anything from jumping off the plane to doing stupid crap on Black diamond trails and I have a stick shift weekend sport car that I enjoy but barely use. So I totally get where you are coming from. And I have no doubt that when wife is not in the car, there will be occasions that I will put those 835 ponies in my R1S to the test but I think over all, I am thinking if I have not gotten myself killed or arrested by now, I may as well lay low for my remaining days and enjoy life in a different way. Just a different phase of life.

I have seen 0-60, 30-50 and 50-70 but the 60-130 sounds new and is so far above US speed limits to be irrelevant.
People buy the Plaid to say it is a 2 second car (for one run with lots of preconditioning) rather than 2.5 like the more efficient Lucid Air or the better built and more customisable Porsche Taycan.

It is a very common metric in the supercar world. The fact that you have good 60-130 times doesn't mean you have to go to 130, it means you can utilize that power after 60mph. Most cars run out of oomph after 60-70mph on the freeway if you're trying to pass someone quickly. In SoCal people seem insulted if you want to pass them so they will accelerate as you try to pass. Have a fast 60-130 metric car? Not a problem.

I assure you I have no problems doing that with my cars and it is a lot of fun. Plus you have to realize that triple digits happen VERY quickly with a fast car. Just a couple of seconds and you're at 120. So while you can't be doing 120mph on a public road, you can certainly hit it for 2 seconds and slow down again if you have a sudden urge to do so.

The difference between a normal car and a very fast car is staggering. If you are driving 80mph next to me and I suddenly accelerate, I can be at 120 by the time I'm only 1.5 car lengths ahead of you. You wouldn't even know I was going that fast, but I am.

If you're interested: https://www.dragtimes.com/vbox-60-130-times.php

Keep in mind there are modified cars in that list.

Anyway, I think I've made my point. We can agree to disagree. A Rivian forum is not the place where this type of conversation makes sense. Make your way to a Porsche/Ferrari/etc forum and you'll see it is a very different place. And those cars are driving the exact same roads you are.

In a gas car, when someone thinks there should be a race, I will rev right back at them... and granny shift up to the speed limit whilst they speed off. It's most fun when the police are near.

I'll miss that with an EV.

Obviously a guy with a small d!ck and over compensating for it.

Any one boasting about "smoking" a Rivian in a Plaid Model S certainly is a d-bag. And, anyone with any real car sense would never show off owning a Model S. A Plaid Model S is a one trick pony - goes super fast in a straight line, but the driving characteristics suck.
Yeah!!! I bet he was the same Tesla Plaid that got SMOKED by a HELLCAT!!!!

In the old days when I was late to get somewhere, I would find a young dude in a Beamer, get him all worked up and let him stay ahead of me by long enough distance that I could still see his break lights. once I saw him pulled over, I looked for the next one. I saved a lot of time and tickets. I am a much nicer person now.

You dont know who Gerber Kawasaki is? He is the biggest Elon Musk's d..k sucker on the planet. He also spews financial advise. He is also physically short so someone elses comment about him trying to compensate having a short d..k by driving a fast car is probably appropriate.

As much as I find Elon Musk annoying and acting like a total douchebag lately, the people who idolize him are always the worse.
