I've been waiting since Dec 2018 for the R1S. And likely *still* be waiting in Dec 2022. In the 3.5 years since I put down the $1000. There are *still* no alternatives that I can put my name on a list for (let alone purchase).

If Kia would open up pre-orders for the EV9/Telluride EV - I'd put my money down and see which came first. Or if VW developed an Atlas EV......Literally..anyone with a reasonable sized 7/8 passenger BEV. Rivian can still make a huge dent in this segment if they act quickly. However Kia isn't far behind....and Rivian just keeps narrowing that gap with every delay.
Not to argue against that (Ioniq 5 owner here), but the Hyundai "preorder" program was a hot mess too. Apparently people who put down the $100 just had their information sent to local dealers who did... whatever they wanted. Most of the people on the forums who were getting theirs (including me) were either putting in orders directly with a dealer or querying inventory API systems to find available stock in their area (which is what I did). People who sat back holding their deposit on the "concierge program" preorder were not getting calls from dealers.

Welcome to the R1 Shop! Thank you again for your R1S pre-order. While you may be delayed, we have options for you to consider. If you would like to get your vehicle sooner, please update your preferences on our configurator to a Kia EV9 or (for an extra fee) a Bollinger B2.

You need to add the BMW iX50 - it is out now. It is a X5 sized EV, but like everything else, it is a 9 month to year long wait if you order one today.

Car has decent real world range of +290 miles, so it has potential. I was able to secure one that delivers in a. couple of weeks after the ordering person walked away due to life changes. I am going to keep it for a while, and sell once my R1T is ready.

Regardless, it is a shame that Rivian is having supply chain issues and cannot ramp up as they wanted because they have lost any head start they got by introducing their cars for sale in 2019.

It’s a bummer. I’m gonna wait for ocean coast. My daily is fine and I just bought a fun second. But I was really looking forward to this thing. I figured it’d be Christmas. Im one of the biggest Rivian apologists and bought a ton of stock. I really want them to get it together. If I don’t have this thing this time next year I’m out. And that’s a huge deal. In reality, December to March isn’t a big difference, keeps a season of salt and grime off of it. That being said, I didn’t mind when the July-Sept dates came out because at least they seemed concrete.

As an aside- what do you think the rarest config is gonna be? LE R1S Ocean Coasts will be non existent. Probably yellow with black sport wheels and OC interior. There’ll be like six.

Sad thing is its making me re-evaluate priorities. This is actually the first new car I've ever ordered. I really want Ocean Coast. I think I'll give it a year. Ive got hundreds of shares, a preorder, I'm invested in this company dammit, I just want it. I'd never pay market/ADM but I actually didn't mind the march upcharge as I thought I might actually get this thing this summer/fall.

Oh well. S00n they say.

There’s not another real 3 row EV SUV coming out anytime soon so I’m sticking with the R1S. The model X, model Y, and soon to be out 3 row Mercedes EQB are all far different than an R1S. Kia ev9 is late 2023 or 2024. Vinfast is allegedly selling the VF9 this year but they might not be making cars in 5 years and has the odd battery subscription.
After having an EV I won’t go back to ICE. Thankfully I can enjoy my model 3 until the wait is over sometime not soon.

Are people canceling their orders???

Naw but now seriously considering just buying an ICE and flipping this damn thing when it comes out because now we are ebay style bidding on what is basically could work for us and there definitely goes the "priority delivery".

for us investors, this is bad news. means theyre not going to hit 25K orders by end of 2022, unless they decide they really want to focus on ramping the T more and the S they just trickle out. that could possibly get them still to 25K but doubt it.

notice how they are trying to dispel the "Rivian lottery" narrative? "We tested this approach with customers across a spectrum of preorder dates to ensure it would be valuable". uh... yeah sure. why would you need to test this across a spectrum of preorder dates? you screwed early order holders with your disorganized inventory/delivery scheme (or just desire to make more $ on post 3/1 prices) and now this is CYA.
That was my thought as well. 25k of R1Ts? I don’t think so. This company needs to get R1S out there for advertising sake and to bolster their stock.

No but probability increasing to do some desperate and dirty things for an alternative vehicle that can be obtained in this lifetime.
