I think that many people don't stop to appreciate that an average draw of a lousy 10W being used by the vehicle for watchdogs, modems, transceivers... amounts to a quarter of a kWh per day.
10W would be fine. People are reporting 160-250W, however.

FWIW my 2018 model 3 loses significantly more from phantom drain. Around 10% per day without sentry on and even more with it. (Located in Berkeley ca, super temperate weather) I’ve contacted support about it multiple times bc the car dies when I go away on trips > a few days unless sentry is off but they claim this is within spec. Otherwise super happy with the car so I haven’t kicked up a storm about it. My mental math now is to expect a 10-15% hit each night on the m3 depending on whether I have sentry on or not.

I would push Tesla harder on that, that does not seem normal. If I leave the Model S in the garage, it will lose maybe 2% the first 36 hours but then goes in a deeper sleep. If I leave for a week it may lose between 4% and 5% total.

Good Lord! Try to get it through your head that that is because there is a lot going on when the vehicle is "asleep" - especially if you run apps like gear guard, sentry, Stats or TeslaFI. Ten watts doesn't go very far. This isn't rocket science. Yes, my X pulls about 170W. And the X I had before this one pulled 170W but that because I run Stats and TeslaFi. People that's don't run those don't pull that much. People that run Sentry pull more. It's just that simple.

I’m adding you to my block list again. You’re simply not worth any effort.

That seems like a higher rate than I lose on my Model S leaving the HVAC running! When camping mode came out, people were only reporting about a 7-10% loss overnight, IIRC.

I consider my 2015 Model S drain initially after it finishes charging pretty bad, and it only goes from 85% to 83% most nights. I don't have sentry or anything, but I also don't disable remote communication or anything like that.

Well now that our friend has had his little fantod perhaps we can get back to serious discussion without distractions from left field.

One factor that I keep forgetting to mention is that the batteries themselves have a slow internal self discharge rate. With Lithium ion this is pretty low. I'd guess a fraction of a percent per day.

Our correspondent may not like it or understand it but the fact that people (and not just one or 2) are reporting phantom drains of 3-4% (corresponding to a hundred watts or more average draw) means that they are happening and that you can expect somewhat less (% wise) than this in your Rivian (bigger battery, comparable hardware/software suite). OTOH 10%/da does seem excessive. That charge is going somewhere it shouldn't. Bad 12V battery discharging itself?

I agree, I should push them harder on it because it gets nerve wracking leaving it parked during travel. I've complained a few times during other service visits but they keep saying that it's within spec...I asked what the spec is and they said that up to 25% loss overnight is acceptable with sentry mode on, which is super high! They didn't share a spec for non-sentry mode but it was/is surprising. I'll run some tests without sentry on to share with support when i can find the time. I absolutely love the car (have a bad left turn signal that has been replaced 5x but is still bad...not sure what the issue is there), but otherwise the best vehicle I have owned, hands down.

That's insane! In my camper van have with a 6kWh battery I can run the heater fan, exhaust van, a refrigerator, charge phones, run lights, cook 3 meals, pump water, heat water... etc and I can go 2-3 days without needing to recharge.

48 hours later. Second morning. 49 degrees Fahrenheit. (Gearguard on).

6% in 48 hours with Gary watching doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. I think Tesla Sentry mode is similar.

Comparing to a Bolt or Mini without equivalent monitoring doesn’t apply.

Check in. 72 hours in. Nothing much to report. Slight drop.

Agree. So far hasn’t been bad at all with systems on and starting with warm battery.

I am going to do this again in a week or two after I get home with gearguard off. Maybe those sensors and cameras drain good bit.
When you do this test, do you mind turning off the feature that let you use your phone as a key and turning off your app as well? Basically keeping your R1 from chatting with other devices as much as you can so we can see what is the best scenario case?

Thanks for sharing all of this.

Seems kind of high. I’m following as I just took delivery last week. Thank you!

Looks Like there is a software updated that addresses the issue:

I am on 2022.7.3 (connected to my home wifii) and when I bring up the screen It shows that my software is up to date.
