R2 Roof Sun Shade

I had 3M tint installed on my car some time ago at "certified" 3m installer, they also don't install ANY tint on sunroof for some reason, I'm not sure why Xpel offers roof tint for r2 if you choose them from rivian gear website, maybe they apply it outside ?
The screenshot is from Rivian's website, not even XPEL. It seems they consider it safe, maybe due to the glass design or something else.

I respect everyone's choice on their car. I defer to the tint shop that's done a great job on all my cars. Never had an issue on any of them. I consider them the expert. So, easy decision. Nothing's perfect. I love my Rivian but I wish they had given us some choices on the roof, suspension and 12v. I have another car with a similar issue. Start to finish glass roof. It does have a retractable interior cover.

How is Denver different than anywhere else? Especially Southern states?

Just precondition the car before you start it to cool it down.

Here in NorCal, with my TM3 for the past 8 years, I’ve used a sunshade to block the IR heat from coming in, but really only ~ 4-5 months of the year. Or when traveling to SoCal or AZ or somewhere where the sun is hotter and a bit longer - and it’s usually spring or summer as well. Otherwise I do like the have the shade OFF and let in extra light - especially during shorter winter months/days.

So it’s definitely going to be a removable replaceable solution for this household and the R2..

That said, the ~ $60 shade I bought for the Tesla back in 2018, still works great today, has the same or close to the same tension and strength of the rods that create the frames structure, so hopefully a similar most likely chinese produce is going to make something nice and useful for the R2

Originally I thought they might need a brace or something, but seeing this video for an R1S shade for the large roof section, with the special clips between sections, that probably won’t be necessary. Even better

That is definitely interesting. Not sure I want to be the guinea pig to try it out considering the price but it is tempting.

So far, it hasn't really been needed (and I'm in AZ!) but I still want one to darken out the cabin when car camping or driving in the desert. Since I'm lazy and typically just leave them up when installed, having a retractable one would be nice.

In Denver you need a moon roof sun screen / shade. The car temp will be very high. Any after market product to buy?

I think the retractable would be really nice to have. The Vion product I’m sure is very nice, but it would definitely take more work to take them in and out.

The Hansshow web site has some odd suggested products listed on the R2 sunshade product page - an interior light kit for the Cybertruck and running boards for the R1T and R1S - probably a remnant of not having many R2 products in their catalog yet...

I wouldn't touch this thing yet.

The product itself already feels rushed: $359 retractable assembly mounted against a brand-new R2 headliner, but they don't even publish the weight. Zero reviews, unknown long-term fit, rattles, sagging, etc.

Then I looked into Hansshow and it didn't exactly increase my confidence. They market themselves as "California based," but their own legal info points to Guangzhou/Shenzhen, China and Hong Kong law. Their own website says founded in 2018 with 300+ employees, while LinkedIn says 2009 and 100+ workers in Guangzhou. Even the basic company story doesn't match.

Their site advertises "30 days Return," but the actual policy requires the product to be unused and uninstalled. Kind of useless for an accessory where you need to install it to find out if it fits properly.

BBB currently gives their California operation an F rating, with 13 complaints and 6 unanswered.

China isn't the problem. Plenty of excellent products come from China. It's the combination of rushed product, vague specs, inconsistent company information and marketing that tries very hard to make the business look more American than it really is.

I'll let someone else beta test this on their headliner first...

Picked up my R2 this week. I live in the desert and it was 109 degrees the day I drove for 3 hour. I was pleasantly surprised that the glass roof seemed to not generate any heat or glare. I may go without a roof screen. On the other hand I will XPEL my windshield and side windows - fair amount of heat coming from them.

The R2 is new, I wouldn't expect any reviews, it would worry me more if there were a bunch of reviews as I would expect them to be fake....

Now would I get it as an early adapter? No, not without seeing the install process.
