Received a set of the latest @VION reflective roof sunshades that cover all three rows (older generation was black only and only covered first and second rows). With dogs regularly in the back and summer now reaching record highs in NJ the timing couldn’t be better. I do have the electrochromatic roof option, which cuts light but not heat. These shades are a much closer match to the Ocean Coast interior and because they have a reflective top surface they push most of the UV and IR back out through the roof glass which makes it much cooler inside, especially when paired with Rivian’s windshield shade. For those extra hot and sunny days it reduces cooling loads (so better efficiency) and is the closest thing we can get to a solid roof. Don’t get me wrong, nine months of the year the pano roof with the electrochromatic glass works nicely, but for those other three months an affordable pop-in solution that easily twists up, folds flat and stores in the sun-trunk is nice to have.

This looks great! Hopefully they can come up with some for the R2.

VION did a nice job with these. I don’t know for sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they released something similar for R2 once there are more units out there and they can get measurements and do fitment testing.

Any worries with this overheating the glass at all and potentially causing a crack? Or is that just internet paranoia?

maybe if you tinted it topside you could theoretically accumulate enough IR in the glass to create a new problem. But light of all wavelengths is designed to pass through glass. if anything, none of the other scattered light from the front windshield or side windows will now go through so I doubt this is an issue. if it were, i doubt rivian would sell a reflective shade for the front windscreen.

If you have a black mountain interior I’ll give you my old sunshade in that color scheme. DM me if you want it.

I am seriously considering this accessory. My husband has the one for his Model Y, and it made a remarkable difference with the interior temperature this time of year. I opted for the dynamic panoramic roof on my R1T; I've used it a few times this year, but have a road trip planned to Florida, and expect to use it a lot then. Going to see what that does to the energy economy before investing. But for $69...

I have the electrochromatic roof as well, but it doesn't block IR much, if at all, so the cabin gets quite hot - and I've got the Ocean Coast interior. For me, it's a must-have from mid-June to mid-Sept in the northeast.

If you order from Vion's web site (https://www.vion.parts/) you can save 10% with my handle CARSLY. It all adds up!

Agreed. Used the feature a few times, and never really saw a reduction in heat in the cabin. Done! And thanks for the discount coupon!

Does anyone make a shade that doesn't use those removable little clips?

Two reasons:
1. temps swing here enough that I used to regularly take the shade on and off depending on the day.
2. we have two young boys with arms long enough to touch the roof...aka flaily appendages that will surely bump the clips right off, which will ultimately get lost under a seat.

The website seems to only have the black one. Is there another one I'm not seeing that has a reflective surface?
