I'm not a tall guy (5' 8"/5' 9") and for me, when the seat is a comfortable distance from the brake and accelerator pedals the dead pedal on my R1T is too far away to be comfortable.

I built an extension to the dead pedal that has made the truck more comfortable for me to drive, especially on my longish commute.

I bought a piece of 1 x 6 PVC exterior trim board (thinking that plastic would be a good fit for an area that will see moisture from snow on boots, etc.). I made a cardboard template of the area then cut out a piece of PVC to match. I spray painted it satin black then attached a dead pedal cover I got from Amazon that was the largest I could find and which is close enough to the look of the other pedals. I mounted the whole thing to the truck with 3M VHB so it should be secure enough to not come off and interfere with the other pedals but still be reversible and not permanently disfigure the truck.

Finished installation. I mitered the bottom edge to match the angle of the dead pedal to the floor and opted to leave it off the floor a bit to tuck the floor mat under it rather than have the mat ride up it a bit. Not sure why it looks crooked in the pics, it's not actually crooked.

Nice mod! Wouldn’t know it was different at first glance.

I noticed the pedal travel on the Rivian seems to be longer than other vehicles. If I can't lay my foot on the dead pedal I have to reach to get the other two on the floor. Might be a difficult task in an emergency.

Great idea, I also find the dead pedal too far away.

Interesting post. I had my "First Mile" drive a few days ago and this is the very first thing I noticed. Even looked down to see if it was there. A subtle detail and never expected anyone to flag that but it's good to see people on this forum continue try to make a great vehicle even better.

This is the first time I ever even knew what that was called or noticed it was there LOL (I guess I'm so short it wouldn't help me in ANY car!)

Thank you for posting about this issue and sharing your hack. I agree that the dead pedal is too low. Your height has nothing to do with it. I’m 5’11” and my left foot does not reach the dead pedal. If you can reach the gas and break pedals with your right foot, your left foot should be able to comfortably rest on the dead pedal. I’ve driven hundreds of cars and never experienced this issue. I contacted Rivian about the issue and hope that they correct and replace. I’ll post their response.

Response from Rivian customer service follows:

I am sorry to hear that and apologize for the inconvenience tis has caused. Transparently, I have never heard this feedback before, however, I would suggest reaching out to our service team at 855-RIVIAN5 as they would be the best point of contact for an inquiry such as this.

I called the service team and was told they'll look into it.

The way it’s situated now, I feel, you have to choose between over-extending your left foot or over-flexing your right foot.

I’ve never driven a vehicle with the dead pedal so far away (if it had one). It’s off.

I’m short, 5’ 6”, but the main relevant measurement here is my legs are roughly the same length.

Same boat here, I'm gonna try that hack to add my own. How far forward did it end up coming?

I would guess it's about 1" total (1 x 6 PVC is about 0.75" thick, plus maybe 0.25" thick plastic cover)

Do you have the link to the pedal you got?

(Interesting that when I search amazon, lots of them come up for Telsa)
