Finally relocated my Valentine radar detector from the dash to the mirror, using the original visor mount. Since the plastic cover had plenty of space, as well as there already being slits across parts of the cover, figured it wasn't going to be that noticeable if it didn't work out.
Here's the original mount:
I separated the metal clip from the plastic, heated it up, reshaped it slightly, repeated a few times until it matched the profile of the bottom of the plastic cover, cut off a corner piece, and powdercoated it again to look like this:
I then marked the plastic for where I wanted to cut a slit in the plastic, slightly back from where I formed it to the outside of the plastic, and taped it up to cut a slit:
I then pushed/pulled the mount through, used a heated screwdriver to put a slit at the end, and pushed it down to hold it in place:
Remounted everything... where you can now see it has upward pressure on the front similar to how it was to hold onto a visor:
Then I just put an old suction cup upside down to push the front down & away from the mirror/plastic, and viola, it's solid and just low enough to where I wanted it. You could also do this closer to the windshield, but I wanted to use the front of the clip to hold it down as an extra measure.
This is very solid, tucked close to the mirror, so I'm not worried about this bouncing or anything.
