Exciting stuff! My wife and I don't really need something the size of the R1S, so 2026-2027 might be a good time for me to downsize. Have normally kept cars for 10+ years, but with some updated tech -- hopefully faster 800V charging and a little better battery chemistry -- and a more practical size for us it's going to be really tempting to trade in the R1S for an R2.

I’m probably reading too much into the graphics of the invite, but I’m wondering if they might be indicating a 90 degree rotation of the headlights for the R2…

Definitely could be. You’d wonder if they’d want to get away from the iconic lights in the vertical but possible with that marketing picture

I know RJ has done interviews on the R2 and stated they were trying to make it mass market by reducing costs to sell it in the $40k-$60k range, but keep the R1 ethos. I really hope they don't go to a single center screen as one of those cost cutting measures. Not because I think it wouldn't work, but because as a previous Tesla owner I've learned the hard way that when they do that, their software becomes fragmented between R1 and R2 (similar to 3/Y vs S/X on Tesla), and with Tesla's they prioritize features coming to 3/Y first because it's their volume sellers. R2 will likely be Rivian's volume seller.

Also, if my Rivian contact was correct, we may hear about Tesla network access. I'm hoping for a "but one more thing" moment :)
We've seen Ford's adapter. It's basically a slightly tweaked Magic Dock adapter. Tesla's manufacturer for those should be able to crank them out in volume at this point. I'm guessing we will be able to start requesting ours from Rivian in late April with shipping start in mid-May. No particular reason for the guess other than that I expect Ford and GM will go first in March-May.

I agree. I hope they keep the driver display. Not necessarily because Tesla's implementation bothers me personally, but it would help differentiate Rivian from Tesla more and it's preferred by buyers.

I also hope what they show is 90-95% of what comes to market instead of insane specs and pricing that never show up.

If R2 could attract some combination of the Subaru/Ford Bronco Sport crowd and cost around $50k or less, it'll be a winner.
