With these rare birds in town at Santana Row, I figured I better stop by while I had my chance!

Nothing earth-shattering in this post, just some simple pics and thoughts. Had the same reaction as others:
  • R2 is a spitting image of R1S, but notably smaller. Likely a nice size for many, though R1S is better for a family of campers like us. With no third row, the rear seat remains decent sized. The cargo area is decent too but nowhere near the R1S. Frunk is notably smaller too. Liftgate window was lowered and looks super useful.

  • R3X is sweet, sweet, sweet. The interior materials work really well, a good kind of funky. Very airy looking inside - although the doors were not open, had to make do with peeking through the driver window.
Friday morning crowds were light, I had as much look-but-don't-touch access as I could ask for.

Looks great! Surprised to see a 275 wide 21 on the R2.

Popped by on Thursday.
Biggest takeaways...

Door Lock Buttons on the Doors!!!!
NACS is nice

Is it air suspension or traditional spring?

I liked the refinements and iterations in the fit and finish, but the size of our R1S is what we like for a family hauler.

Please please get 350mi+

I am hopeful for a R3 in Q1 2026

I went on Thursday, and got a little bit of excitement. Some of my additional observations: (I was mainly focused on the R2)

- the tires on the R2 seemed really wide. I need to look and see if my R1S has the same width. :-/
- there did not appear to be a hitch panel, not sure if that is just a prototype artifact.
- they got rid of the mechanical handles in favor of electric door handles, interesting. :) (picture attached)
- no rear climate screen behind the center console.
- they wouldn't open the frunk...interesting. :)
- the screens seemed a little smaller, definitely the driver screen
- the R3X definitely does look like a fun car...party on Wayne!

Man the design of the R3X is fun. I’m not in the Rivian club yet but it will certainly be in the running for our next car when it comes out

No air suspension. Springs are cheaper. R2 comes out in 2026. R3/R3X will come out soon after, but only if R2 is a commercial success. A lot can happened in 2 years. I’m hopeful Rivian can weather the storm until then with some reengineered more affordable R1s. If all goes well Rivian could become the new electric Subaru.

I'm excited to see those 19 inch tires. Even though they are on the R3 I'm hopefull they will be an option on the R2. And maybe they will even put the Michilin crossclimate 2 tires I like on them.

Agree. The R2 and R3 are the car Subaru wishes Toyota make for them.
Yeah, what’s up with those guys? They could easily convert some of their existing lineup to EVs, even if they need to partner with the Chinese to get the battery tech right.

Interesting that the simulated screen efficiency graph shows an average efficiency of only 3.12 mi/kWh. That feels really low for a vehicle of R3's size. Maybe the expect the offroad tires to be terrible, and the non-X R3 will be higher?
