yeah, hard to believe we have to bring up a "limiter" when discussing quarter mile times for a performance vehicle. I wonder if it's due to a cooling limitation. We’ve got to do something about that speed limiter so these Rivians leave no doubt![]()
That would make sense. Or Rivian’s effort to preserve my life a little longer.yeah, hard to believe we have to bring up a "limiter" when discussing quarter mile times for a performance vehicle. I wonder if it's due to a cooling limitation.
Yeah but that's a $100k+ seat upgrade...watching that all I can think is "man that Lambo's seat looks a lot more comfortable than my R1S seat"
2 of those are propelled by noise?

I'm thinking it's more like the 7000+ pounds of vehicle with 800+ HP. Not to say that the other two aren't wicked heavy and wicked powerful, they are. Most larger vehicles with squishy suspensions I've had have a limiter in the 100MPH range, including a couple Raptors. I suppose the R1S could tighten up the suspension and be really planted, but geez, that's a lot of vehicle to control at 100+MPH.yeah, hard to believe we have to bring up a "limiter" when discussing quarter mile times for a performance vehicle. I think the main (at least advertised) speed limiter is in the tires, especially for the 20" ATs on the Rivian and the off-road shoes on the Shelby. I also read somewhere on this forum (so it MUST be true) that the original "first drive" R1Ts for the press events were limited at 130 mph - wouldn't that be fun! The post went on to point out that the motors' limits were ~150 mph and it was determined that 130 mph would potentially put too much stress on the motors, hence the lower 110 mph limit.I'm thinking it's more like the 7000+ pounds of vehicle with 800+ HP. Seems like Lambo has no choice, a limiter wouldn't do well with their brand. Plus it's got MASSIVE brakes. And that Shelby...I couldn't paid enough to ride in that rig. I've seen a Shelby Raptor tear 6" of cargo bed sheet metal on both sides in Baja just due to really bad engineering.
Yep, that makes a lot of sense. The tires I'm sure are a huge limiter. Again, 7000lbs, 800+HP...yeah I want some stout, high speed rated tires! AT's probably are going to cut it! I wonder if the 20's, 21's, and 22's all have their own unique limiter MPH's? Or at least AT's vs the other two.I think the main (at least advertised) speed limiter is in the tires, especially for the 20" ATs on the Rivian and the off-road shoes on the Shelby. Either way, I think 115-120 mph limit would be better to at least allow the truck/suv to continue accelerating all the way through the quarter-mile...sucks to be maxed out for last 100 or so ft of the contest.
if it is then THAT should be the "limiter" and until that threshold is reached, let the power go. I believe there were early mentions of R1Ts crossing 130 so there's still top-end left and realistically if it's kicking in "a few car lengths" prior to 1/4 mile you're not gonna put significantly more heat into the entire system over the next 0.2s or so. It would be nice to let these vehicles "breathe" just a little bit more - even a 120 cap seems like it would be a meaningful difference and yet a pretty small increment to unlock.yeah, hard to believe we have to bring up a "limiter" when discussing quarter mile times for a performance vehicle.
