  1. Worried about buying a Rivian if the company fails

GM almost folded in 2009 so anything is possible, but Rivian is in a pretty good place to survive all things considered. At this point there are more than 100,000 Rivians. Even if the company folded there would still be decent third party support, but you would have to pay for it.
  2. 12v issues (both needed replacement)

I had the same issue and my batteries were replaced by mobile service last month. My tech told me it isn't uncommon for the batteries to simply wear out after about 18-24 months. I've had my R1T for about 18 months. He hinted that next time the replacement won't be free.
  3. Rivian crushed by tree in California storm

The strength of the B pillar saved her life. Based on crash performance, Rivian should be the new Volvo.
  4. Challenging PR for R1T (rear window replacement cost)

I see how you think that - but the actual criticism is not inaccurate.
  5. Challenging PR for R1T (rear window replacement cost)

Complaining and whining is the bedrock of this public forum.
  6. Challenging PR for R1T (rear window replacement cost)

I happen to personally know Matt Prince. We were law school classmates. He's a down-to-earth guy who likes to use his platform to point out issues he thinks can be improved - including at his own company. Based on the posts in this forum, his complaints are fairly common.
  7. Love All The Space Of R1T

I've never been a truck guy. In the R1T, the bed is an additional feature, not something that requires the sacrifice of locked interior storage. I've used the bed more than I anticipated, but the frunk and gear tunnel get used nearly daily.
  8. R1T Bedliner Testing

How did the paint hold up?
  9. Rivian is near the bottom of this predicted reliability study

Alternate headline: New Automotive Manufacturer Rivian Outperforms Mercedes-Benz in Predicted Reliability Despite Using New Technologies
  10. .42.?

My 42.1 is fine so far. Having said that, I think I'll wait a bit when then next update is available.
  11. Negative EV press blitz

The big oil money is fueling the politics. Their plan is working. I've been on the receiving end of outright hatred from people who clearly support American made products (riding Harleys and driving HD diesel American trucks). Hatred for having the temerity to drive an American designed...
  12. Software Update 2023.42.0 is out (⚠️ UPDATE: OTA fix rolling out today 11/15/23)

I'm saying they need to verify their rollout or deployment procedures on employee vehicles in addition to testing the software on company vehicles. If they had done that, Bob in accounting would have flagged the certificate issue when he did the OTA on his R1S even though his R1S never tested...
  13. Software Update 2023.42.0 is out (⚠️ UPDATE: OTA fix rolling out today 11/15/23)

I'm a little surprised new software isn't rolled out to a known set of vehicles (employee cars?) about a week before the same software is sent to paying customers.
  14. Rumor: Tri-motor Cybertruck $98,990 starting price 🤔

I love that the water can be choppy, but not too choppy.
  15. Rumor: Tri-motor Cybertruck $98,990 starting price 🤔

It's not clear that the entire SC network will be open. They are opening only enough to get the government cash. I'm not sure how many that will be.
  16. Update: Rivian adding Gauge View feature to Dual Motor Rivians (per VP of Software)

This is true for a lot of products. I think there were some laser printers that were identical except for how fast the software let it print. The faster printing version was a couple hundred bucks more for the same hardware. I seem to remember the Tesla thing came out when they did a software...
  17. GM delays EV pickup production by a year to 2025

Electric trucks are a niche product right now. Rivian was so smart to build the R1T and R1S on very similar platforms. They can simply shift to more SUVs on the line without missing a beat.
  18. Long way to go for self driving for Rivian

The reason I don't use Driver+ on highways is that it centers the vehicle in the lane. I like to give extra space to swaying 18-wheelers as I pass. I had a few close calls staying dead in the middle of my lane using Driver+. Truckers typically expect you to move out of their way - fair or not.
  19. Canceled my R1S order :-(

Some people want quad motors, 835 hp, 8,000-11,000 pounds of towing, adjustable suspension and electrical efficiency. Some people want real leather, massaging seats, and and other luxury features. In our contemporary world $100k doesn't buy both.
  20. R2 styling: what would you keep/discard from the R1?

I agree with you on the wagons and a potential R2T. As mentioned by others above, if Rivian wants a niche competitor, make a Bronco/Wrangler open top version. It makes much more sense than a wagon or smaller truck. Having said that, an R3S small SUV probably makes even more sense for building...
