First R1S ascent of Engineer Pass?

For those wondering about range, I fully charged in Telluride (306 miles of range in Conserve mode), had to drive all the way around to Placerville and Ridgway before starting my approach (via Hurricane and California Passes), since Ophir Pass is not open yet, used Off-Road Highest mode on all dirt roads over to Lake City, and arrived in Salida with >50 miles of range (got the only available RAN charger, others were in use on a Friday at 6pm). 4 adults, fully loaded car for the week’s vacation, plus 250 lbs of e-bikes and bike racks. Strong headwinds, and the worst efficiency I’ve had, ~1.8. But this is such an amazing vehicle, better than my customized FJ that I’ve taken on dozens of similar off road trails in CO & UT. Softest, smoothest ride, tightest turning radius (matters on switchbacks).

Love that pass / place. Excited to take our R1S up there at some point late this summer.

That is SUCH a cool area. I ride horseback up into Wild Horse and Difficulty Creek, in pursuit of the wiley Wapiti. Congrats on great post.

Maybe I'll try something not quite as high with my R1T. Niceville Florida has the highest point in Florida at 150' above sea level. I'll start there.

You're killing me here. Been there many times. I grew up spending summers in a willy's traversing all the Colorado passes. Can not wait for my off-road-loaded R1S!

Wow! That looks amazing. I've been going to Estes Park the last few years to hike. Plan to drive to Colorado once I get my R1S. Never been off road so going to keep it light. Would appreciate suggestions as you look like a pro.

I’m more of a hiker than an off roader. I’ve hiked in RMNP, which has some good things to see, but I’d say the most amazing scenery for off roading is generally elsewhere in Colorado. I’ve never off roaded north of I-70 … I use FunTreks guidebooks, but had to look up this guidebook as I was pondering a good answer to your question and I can’t say I’ve heard of any of these trails, nor have they been recommended in any groups I’m a member of https://funtreks.com/product/guide-to-northern-colorado-backroads-4-wheel-drive-trails-4th-edition/. I have driven Trail Ridge Road through RMNP, which is mostly paved, so I drove it in my Tesla, as well as the Peak to Peak highway for fall colors.

That looks like fun, spent some time up there several years ago with my Land Cruiser. Cinnamon is another fun pass, I did Black Bear and Imogene as well on the trip. Nothing quite like the pucker factor of passengers on Black Bear ...

Fantastic photos Brent! I’ll have to put that one on my list. You and I were “twinning” yesterday, as I drove up Rollins pass to Yankee Doodle Lake, but the snow is still blocking the road up higher to Upper Forest Lakes…I managed to catch a couple small Tiger Trout however.

You seriously coming in here saying your worst efficiency yet ~1.8 was going up a mountain, intermittent off-road mode, in a headwind, and fully loaded?

It does include nearly 2k feet of descent ;)

Those are awesome roads we had a lot of fun on them last summer. I bet it was a good feeling thinking you didn't need to use the lake city charger. We plugged in just long enough to air up and that brought us to a higher SOC than we left Ouray with.
