I tried to push my R1T thru about 36 inches of snow and got stuck. Kubota to the rescue. Im convinced that the software doesn’t know how to allow the tires to spin While stuck. I could have got myself out of that in my Land Cruisers. The Rivian is a

Someone in another thread posted the following technique:

a. Lower the suspension to the lowest height to compact the snow.
b. Raise the suspension to the highest setting.
c. Drive forward

When you get stuck, repeat steps a,b, and c.

I've used that strategy in my Jeep for many years and it works every time.

While I have yet to get stuck in my Rivian, I did get high centered in my Bolt EV once. The computer really wasn't being helpful trying to flip between reverse and drive to rock the vehicle out. It was more forgiving about shifting at speed and under load than the Rivian seems to be though.

It would be interesting if Rivian introduced a special mode that would help try to rock the vehicle out of being stuck.

In December to avoid a head on collision with a Tacoma that had lost control on a canyon road I drove off the road and into a plowed snow pile. It ended up high centering ours, and we couldn't get the suspension to move up or down. Fortunately we were going skiing and had our shovels so we just dug it out, once we cleared some snow from the panels underneath it was able to reverse. Impressively not a bit of damage, considering it was that dense nasty plowed snow we though it would have been much worse.

LOL. This thread reminds me of the time I tried that with my old Colorado. 31" tires. The snow was deeper than the tires were tall. Didn't get very far before breaking out the shovel. ? Be careful out there, y'all!

Curious about "rocking". If you are stuck and you use the other method of gas and let it rock back without shifting gears, then repeating, will Rivian do that? (will it allow roll back if you let off the accelerator pedal or is it just brakes?)

Maybe a little. Rock crawl lets you turn off hold mode, so it can roll backwards then. You can see it start at ~5 seconds into my video here before I swapped to the brake to manually stop it from rolling back. Was the first time I've actually driven the truck up something like that so was caught off guard when it started rolling backwards after I let off the throttle.

So close to damaging your rear wheel!
