I like my 2023 gen 1 R1T. A lot. Paid cash for it and will probably drive it until it won't go any more... over 30k miles so far. ....but I think if I were in the market for a new truck right now, I'd try a Cybertruck. I'm still not in love with the way they look - they're out there man.. but a few things they have that RIVN does not: V2H charging capability (Rivian promised, but will never deliver) and full self-driving auto-pilot (will never be possible in Rivian gen1 and still not available in gen2)... and another thing I assume Tesla does not have as much of a problem with that the rivvy does: WIND NOISE.
I don't think I can get past the looks of the Cybertruck personally, but I can't deny its benefits. It also has an 800v architecture and rear wheel steering, things which I really hope we see in the next R1 refresh. Rivian really needs to up its charging game if it wants to stay competitive.

I don’t know. Just bought a 2023 Model Y as a second vehicle (HW4) and man is the software experience soooo much smoother and better than Rivian. FSD is also amazing. I know Rivian is going that direction and will hold making my decision until my lease expires in 2.5 years, but they really need to prioritize the QA on both the software and mechanical side. I’m not buying another buggy mess of a vehicle - the basics should be ironed out in the Rivian software by now, but any gen 2 owner knows they’re not. Also, the sound system in this used MY at 1/3 cost of my R1S blows it away. They’re cooked if they deliver R2’s that are as buggy as gen 2 R1S.

I still like the actual vehicle appearance better for Rivian - wish I could have Tesla software in it, lol. It’s just so good.

Spot on, agree 100%…Rivian hardware with Tesla software is the holy grail.

Rivian can’t get remotely close to Tesla software/capabilities (most of all FSD-had a service Model X and there’s essentially no need to touch the wheel, mind blowing), Tesla seriously fumbled the ball not making a real SUV or Truck…maybe Rivian, a Tesla company?

My 2026 R1S on the other hand drives absolutely piss poor compared to a 2016 Model S…???

Yes I’d buy my late 2023 R1S Gen 1 in a heartbeat. I look at all the bitch-ass comments here on this forum and just laugh. By far this is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and I came from a BMW X7, and an Audi prior to that.

Best vehicle I've ever owned and I've had many including Porsches, Lexus, etc. I only have little minor wishes. Odometer reading on driver screen. More configure options on the vehicle status screen. Option to configure main display to show 2 or more screens in windows. More screen choices or configurations for the driver's screen. More addon apps like Waze.

As for the numerous folks complaining about the voice controls for messaging, I just use siri and it works fine for reading out and sending messages while driving.

Absolutely. 2022 Gen 1 that I picked up in Dec 3 years ago. About 32k miles so far with minimal problems, all handled pretty quickly in the Denver service center. Never had a more capable or enjoyable vehicle. I honestly expected more issues given how early I got it and was prepared for that, but it’s been great. If you’ve ever owned a Dodge truck you know what real issues look like. I’ve road tripped in it, off roaded, camped, taken it skiing many times and it’s never disappointed.

Mine had two repairs in far more time than my Rivian has, and did much more hard work.

100%!

I had an earlier vin, 2022 delivery truck, had zero issues with it. 3 years and 70k later it was totaled. 5 minutes after insurance declared it a total loss I'd already put a deposit on a new truck and I argue that the 5 weeks to get the replacement truck was WORSE than the 18 months it took to get the original as I had now known what Rivian ownership was.

I'm sure I answered this already, but my answer has changed. No, I wouldn't buy this truck again at this point in my ownership journey. It seems like Rivian is doing some belt-tightening with loaners and rental cars. I live 3.5 hours from the closest service center, and I do not like their shift in attitude.

It feels like getting service has shifted from "We're sorry your truck is broken, let us get it fixed ASAP so you will love it" to "What do ya want? I guess I'll fix it if you ask me nicely". It could be my limited interaction with a couple of bad apples, but this issue has been going on since October, when I had a mobile tech out and was supposed to get a call from the service center to schedule a repair. I had to call them and schedule it after months of waiting, as my car is getting close to being out of warranty. When I called, they didn't even have documentation of the issue, and I had to explain the whole thing over again.

Then the guy on the phone was reluctant to schedule a loaner car for me, even though I had to cross two state lines to drop it off. I got the whole "if you caused this, we are billing you for the rental spiel" as well. When the willingness of the service centers to help you changes for the worse, it really amplifies the distance away from them.

I would absolutely buy another. I have an R1S gen 1 with 25,000 miles. It’s first EV and the best car I have ever owned, and I’ve owned a lot of really good cars in my life. In fact, I plan on buying an R2 for my wife when the Lidar version comes out.

I just bought an extended service agreement, because it's going to be long term, and there still aren't any other truck options anywhere near this truck.

Would I buy a Rivian SUV? Hell no, too many other great options.

Would I buy any Rivian if fantastic off-road ability were not a priority? Probably not, too many other great options.

The Rivian singularly fits all my varied "requirements" but for most people, other brands are probably a better choice.

I’m about 60/40 yes/no. I love the potential of the R1T. But the numerous service visits and things just not working (for unknown reasons) are taking its toll on me.

I’m thinking about that too. Where did you get the extended warranty? How long and how much?
