Just got back from a Winter hike in RI with my son and had no problem driving home in the heat of this big storm. Put it in Snow mode and made sure I was easy on and off the acceleration. Careful in the sharp corners and even when I tried to break loose in corners for some fun the R1T was very grounded. I’m looking forward to upgrading the 22 Pirelliā€˜s at some point but they seem to be fine as long as you pay attention to speed, upcoming road changes, and distance between cars. Go Pats!

If it looks slippery the first thing I do in any vehicle is try to get in a place with a little bit of straight road and no other cars right next to or in front of me; then start hitting the brake to see exactly how much i can apply before it starts to slide. Then once it’s sliding i can figure out what that vehicle needs me to do to fix it.

You know, this is something I always do without even thinking about it, usually leaving my neighborhood. Good to know all the variables at play.

100%. It is very important to know the limits of the vehicle before you are in a situation that requires you knowing the limits of the vehicle.

I think snow mode only reduces input from the accelerator. Acceleration is usually no issue in the snow when in all purpose. If snow mode had a special adjustment to super low regen it would be valuable, but putting in snow mode doesn't change regen mode (which logically it should) so as far as I have found it is worthless. Go all purpose, low regen and enjoy the security of the Rivian!

Snow mode will set Regen to Low … i did this tonight and I always drive with High Regen but when I put in into Snow mode it went to low … also noticed the less sensitive accel … almost like it puts it 50% of power. Stay safe out there.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I love going out in the snow and sliding around. Just slow acceleration, braking and turns. Some 20"s with the Toyo's have been great so far, though I still prefer my Bronco.
I have a feeling that the R2 is going to be like an electric Bronco. At least that’s my take.

My ā€˜22 Bronco with Sasquatch was incredible in the snow. Nice balanced feel. The Rivian is nowhere near as good, and the weight is a problem in turns. It’s still pretty good overall tho

Looks like this weekend will be a tough one for most of the country. Please, share your experiences and advice for the forum. The obvious one is not to drive in bad weather if you dont have to. Beyond that, what should people do and be aware of if they do have to venture out. Feel free to post photos. Wishing everyone a safe journey.
There are two main factors, vehicle and tires. Tires matter more.

Sport tires are garbage in the snow. Survivable, but you have to be *that guy* that's driving slow.
Reporting back regarding the performance of the 22" Pirelli AS tires: they are excellent in the snow. I certainly would not say they are equivalent to snow tires, but they are definitely NOT "garbage".

Tonight I picked a partially plowed parking lot with 6+" of snow, and it plowed though it like a champ. And the snow was not soft, powder. It was icy crap.

I have 22" Michelin Defenders and it handled the Austin snow and ice fairly well. That is, until I found myself on an off-camber switchback leading up to my house that had entirely iced over, at which point the car's weight started us sliding in the wrong direction. I managed to stop before drifting into a nearby mailbox, but with less room to spare than I would have liked. So I put the truck in "high" mode, jumped out, and installed tire socks on both front tires within 5 minutes, then was able to climb right up the same hill without any issues.
