When is good time to proactively replace 12v batteries?

2 yrs old LE with two 12v batteries & 43K miles.

I’m right with you as far as age and mileage (2 years and 60k miles) and I’ve wondered when is it gonna happen to me, but honestly I think I’m gonna ride it out and hope it’s not terribly inconvenient when they go.

Two years four month and mine just popped up. appt next week to have it replaced. I may start putting mine on a battery tender/conditioner once every six month or so after this.

2 years, 10 months @ 43k miles. Just got the replace 12V battery warning after returning from a trip (truck was at the airport). Service scheduled for two months from now, but assuming they’ll replace it sooner if the mobile tech is around or if it straight up dies.

It seems 2.5 years is about average.

My R1T quad is 2 years old with 23,500 miles. I have not received any warnings but I have a 7,500 mile inspection scheduled this week and they added a 12v replacement to my service ticket.

My truck was built 12/21 and has 55K miles on it. Still the same 2 original batteries and haven't had any issues with it but I'm thinking about proactively replacing them soon.

I would see in Electrafi.com how's the sleep/wake cycle during the night with no gear guard nor the PaaK nearby. If it sleeps for more than 5 hours, zero need of replacement (i would say). If it doesn't last more than 2 or 3 hours slept, then I might start to get concerned.

I would also try reconditioning the 12v by using a battery tender as well and see how it behaves after that for a few weeks (my thread here https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/trick-for-maintaining-health-of-the-12v-battery.37720/)

We had a 12v battery issue about a year ago and they replaced it....so, I am good for a couple of years.

My 2014 R1S is 11 months old with 9,300 miles. Just got the 'failed battery' warning. It's taking a SoCal Service Center 3 weeks to get to the battery replacement. I asked if it was safe to drive and got a nebulous answer..."maybe it will fail so the vehicle won't run". I'm very hesitant to go on any trips and will stay close to home for the next 9 days when the mobile service shows up. The posted article and video on this forum concerning old 2023 batteries in new vehicles and the superior Ohmmu for Rivians is a great read. I have turned off Gear Guard, which the article says raised the drain to 1.8 from 1.0 (ma?). I'd get the battery replaced ASAP for any mileage. Rivian knows they have a serious problem.

The 3 weeks was said to be the earliest mobile or Service Center appointment (El Segundo or Irvine). I guess they didn't take my call as being as serious as yours? Maybe the original red battery warning on the dash was a lesser threat? Now the warning on the app is looking pretty severe.

Keep it plugged in to a L2 charger when not in use. Otherwise, you might get it to fully shut down and It'll need to be towed.
