Is that fog in my charging light bar? Yes, it is.

Rivian R1T R1S Water and Fog in Charging Light Bar - R1S Water-Light-Bar

My R1S is garage kept at home and work, but I did run it through a touchless (water jet) car wash a few days before this photo.

I hope it evaporates?

They are designed to evaporate water out. From what I can see in your photo that doesn't look too bad.

That said I have had my rear light bar replaced twice when that mechanism failed and they just had moisture in them for months, on the second the light eventually failed as well.

You can see a photo of what mine looked like the second time here.

Thanks for posting that - I can't believe this is an issue. Such a pain.

I had mine serviced also!! They replaced everything and resealed it, water/fog is not supposed be in the light bar! If I were you I would bring it in. It was covered under warranty! Bonus

Mine has started to condensate as well. Other than appearance, any reason to worry?

Without seeing the part itself, I am not sure how Rivian has their stuff designed. However, with auto lighting there is usually a vent, a downward pointing elbow/tube with a foam plug that allow internal and external air to equalize.

Is this due to rain or car washes?

Condensation. Rain isn’t required. If air is humid enough and temperature differs enough to condense water molecules, it will happen. Like condensation on a cold beer can. Not familiar with the part itself, but automotive lighting housings usually have a vent tube with a small foam insert. This is to allow air inside to equalize with air outside, to mitigate that air temp difference and avoid condensation. Possible there may s obstruction in the vent. Or, water got in during washing. Make note of it in service ticket and have them respond under warranty, while you still have it. But it’s not serious or time sensitive.

I know this is an older thread, but I had this issue so wanted to post my experience. My light bar constantly had water in it and started to fail a month or so ago. It eventually totally failed. I had it replaced in a remote service yesterday. The tech indicated a seal on the light bar was compromised and water eventually made its way into the wiring harness. He said the old bar was like a pool and let me see how much water was sloshing around inside it. I'm not sure if this means no water/condensation should ever be in the light bar or if it may get in but shouldn't be an issue. We will see but the work was pretty quick and I'm glad to have it working again.

No water should collect in anything that contain electrical components. Unless fully sealed and gas purged (like optics), condensation is possible when the necessary environmental conditions are present. In which case, automotive light assemblies generally have a vent to allow the trapped air to equalize with external air (humidity and temperature).
