For those asked to confirm your truck and started the 8 steps, did you all have a VIN right away? I assume so, for insurance reasons (since that's a step)?

Lastly, I assume once you have a VIN your truck is done and sitting in Normal, IL? Or are they still in the works of producing it?

Sorry for all the questions, ha!

My VIN was assigned as soon as the 8 steps opened.
I know that those that had 8 steps earlier in the year that this wasn't the case.

Also, my case may be an exception as it very well could be a config that someone backed out of.

Ahhh...good point. It will be interesting what other folks have seen as well.

So I had a truck and then decided against it. The 8 steps opened when that VIN was assigned, but then disappeared after I changed the configuration and that truck went to the shop.
Later, when I myself picked a truck in the shop, the 8 steps opened up again right where I had left it.

I'm trying to figure out if I should hang tight for a bit longer and let Rivian work out more of the quality bugs...

I got my VIN right away.

Insurance was a step for me.

My truck was not done when it opened. It was still in production. But a day later, it finished production and was awaiting shipment.

I just went through this a couple days ago. When the 8 steps opened for me Wednesday I had a vin. It was at the factory but it is available for pickup on Monday at the service center already as it’s already there.

Once they issue you a vin that truck is already in production so it’s either fully made in Normal or it’s already at the service center. I think my experience is the goal Rivian is shooting towards now.

They want it to go quickly once you have the 8 steps.

WOW! I got mine Tuesday but it's not to me yet. Which SC did it go to?

I received my 8-steps email and a VIN on August 20. I finished all the steps except for finalizing my insurance and payment. I'm still waiting for the last step to be unlocked. I emailed my guide early Friday, asking if it's days, weeks or months away (just to get a rough idea) but I didn't get a response.

Guide contact 9/06, 8 steps opened 9/07, VIN assigned 9/08. Finishing up my financing and insurance (both third party). Guide initially told me 1 to 3 weeks. I hope to have my financing and insurance finished up tomorrow or Tuesday and then I’ll ask my guide for an update.

My guide called me Monday to let me know the R1T was ready for delivery but it seemed they were very backed up so it took until today to get everything scheduled. I'm about 80 minutes from the service center. Anyway, delivery went very smoothly, my family and I drove all around town, got some dinner and put it on the charger. I'm very happy with the El Cap Gray/Forest Edge, first time I've been close to one of these things!

I received my 8 Step email on 10/25.

When I got to the step to complete the Rivian Purchase Agreement, there was a VIN present.

Sent my guide an email that evening stating I would be interested in adding the manual Tonneau cover as long as it wouldn't affect my delivery date.

The next message he sent stated he added the manual cover to my order and would then check to confirm it did not affect my date.

Next time I logged into my account, the steps were gone as if I had never started them.

My guide says this is only due to a glitch in the website that they are working on and that it should be fixed on 10/31. As of this morning, my steps are still not restored, although when I click the link in my email to sign the Purchase Agreement, it loads and still shows the original VIN I was assigned.

Trying to get my guide to state in writing that my VIN won't change and that the delivery date won't be affected, but have not received that yet.

Will be really upset if a question I asked of my guide was misunderstood and now my delivery timing will be affected.

I was slated for a Dec. 2022 - Jan 2023 delivery date, so still early but still.
