Hi Kids - need some advice here - I'm supposed to take delivery of my R1T (limestone / OC) next week but was just informed that the power tonneau is "Locked" and that I'll have to choose between keeping it locked open or closed, until the new / revised power tonneau arrives (no ETA on that as we all know). OR i can pick another truck from the R1 Shop (6-8 week delay).... Thoughts? Wish I had any confidence that the revised power cover will be out in the next 6-9 months, And my Vin is 12xxx so I'm essentially last in line when it does, I guess....

I would leave it open. Just my 2 cents. I think this is a very personal question though.

Keep it and have it locked open. You'll get the new one for free. Otherwise, I've heard they can't/won't be retrofitted.

I would pick it up with it locked open. That way you have the power tonneau cover (functional or not). If you choose a config without it, you will never get it.

Chances are any other truck you choose from the shop would also need the cover locked in the next couple months anyway. So I guess I’m saying they are just offering to save you a trip to have it done later. If you want the power cover this is actually your best option since they aren’t making any trucks with the powered version until they have a new design.

Honestly, locked is better than broken. I would love a truck with a locked tonneau. And eventually you'll get a revised functional powered tonneau. If you hold out for one thats functional you'll probably just get another broken one.

I agree with others. If you want a Power Tonneau then take it, you could get lucky and find one in the R1 shop with a cover that works but at this point it would probably be a 'reworked' truck.

For what it's worth my Tonneau cover still works 8 months and almost 23k miles later, never lubed it or done anything else crazy, lucky I guess.

How often do you use it? Mine is going on two months strong with maybe 3 uses. :CWL:

I would take it. As others have said, you don't know if a truck from the shop with a cover will work or not. Or if there will even be any available with one. I would go with locked open position, especially if you have a spare tire.

I use it some, not frequently. At a minimum every time I wash it I open and close it and spray out the track. Otherwise usually when I need something in the front.

If I HAD to buy a truck, I would choose open. Since I am ok waiting for 1-2 years, I would not take a product that is "pending a fix"......just my $0.02

I think there's a lot of people that would prefer the powered turned off so they could get the fix later because they already said that it's not retro capable to have a non powered version. Otherwise you would HAVE to sell the truck to get one with the 'fixed version' later. And worst case you have literally the same truck and you're out whatever the difference power/manual is.

Great thoughts, thanks all! FWIW my guide noted that all of the trucks in the R1 Shop are ones with no / manual covers, so apparently we've seen the last of the power cover production, N-T. Glad some of you have ones that are working (lubed or not, lol).....
