Jeez! Tough crowd. Somebody will always be unhappy about something. Nobody or no company can satisfy everybody. Rivian just carry on.
yup, exactly. which is why we have opinions and Rivian adjusts and responds to feedback, just like any other good customer-centric company.

Is the dot supposed to be your current, instantaneous efficiency? If so, that could be a pretty handy "at a glance" tool, even if it does coincide with the right-most position on the graph. Does it update faster than the graph?

Reading this thread has made me think how much I would like it if a few things got tweaked here:

  • The baseline should be the calculated baseline which is used by the vehicle to determine range. Not the EPA estimated range, but the range actually displayed by the vehicle after learning your driving data. This would mean that anything above the baseline would mean that you were actively doing better than the vehicle thinks and you should arrive at your destination with more range than predicted.
I do strongly suspect that 2mi/kwh (or close to it) is what the nav uses to estimate range remaining at your destination. The estimated range-at-destination is dynamic, way more pessimistic, and closer to realistic than one based on an EPA-rated calculation would be.

I find it pretty easy to get that range-at-destination estimate to slowly increase as I drive along on longer stints, suggesting that getting 2.3-2.4mi/kWh (a typical 80mph highway efficiency) is better than what Rivian is using to guesstimate. So I suppose the 2mi/kwh baseline in the efficiency graph is somewhat useful in that sense. Hit that, and you’ll at least match what the nav thinks you’ll be at when you arrive.

The efficiency graph is still incredibly opaque and not at all tied into the navigation, so this isn’t obvious in any way to help the average user.

Sure. That’s why there’s 4 pages here discussing it.
Maybe you can explain to us the relationship between my 15 minute average, the green bar, and the white dot, and whether or not I should expect to hit my estimated range based on this info. With the previous energy graph I could easily utilize that information. Not so much now.

They really need to get rid of the efficiency line at 2kWh.. It just doesn't make sense at all. The line SHOULD be what you need to drive at to get your estimated range.

an example of this would be, I have dual motor, standard+ battery: battery size is roughly 121kWh.. so I would have to drive 2.5kWh to get the estimated 300 mile range. That's where my efficiency line should be at.. and so forth for all other battery sizes.

I agree, i would like that, or a way to set the line at what i want or calibrate it. There doesn't appear to be a true instantaneous reading either, more or a 'trend-line'.

We'll get it replaced in a later update with a tree that adds leaves and drops leaves based on how efficient the vehicle is driving, but not provide any quantitative data on the efficiency numbers.
Yes, but it will be a procedurally generated tree.

So the neon magic marker line was shown to us a while ago, I just never noticed. Here’s an R2 preview shot.

Now where the giant, oversized bubble level indicator came from, I don’t know. Maybe the intern did some weekend work?

There’s some more interesting stuff in this picture though. 1) 30 min 2) instantaneous rate (replaced by giant fat neon green bubble level) and 3) an average reading.
