@SwampNut, I can't get over just how good that wrap looks on your truck!
Thanks, we still get surprised by a new color regularly, or how a different sun angle results in a new set of colors we haven't seen before. Also it's absolutely fascinating that on a road trip, your geographic location, I guess due to sun angle or pollution, changes the colors. It is so much fun to experience it daily. We joke, "Wonder what color it will be today?"

Jesus Christ.....AM I really this old?

<Removed photos of old pickups with standard step bumpers>

Yes it appears I am just that old. Just put your hand in the stake pocket. May be lousy, but it exists. Doesn't really do any good though if you have to step directly onto the tailgate that's as high as my hip. I'm not climbing into that with a single step anyway.
How do any of those bumpers help you when the tailgate is down?

As for me? I have a receiver-mount step. Something I had on my F-250 before my Rivian. Because it's more useful than the bumper step, having multiple levels. It helped me get up TO the bumper step.

As for tailgate height - that's been happening across all pickups, just getting taller and taller.

Great steps unless you're over the weight limit. Like I am. Unless I'm naked, and I'm pretty sure that's not good for anyone except me.
Unless you're *WAAAAY* over 250, you ain't gonna break it. I haven't broken mine yet. And I've abused my poor gear tunnel doors. Jumped down from the bed rail onto them, smashed them into the cabinet in my garage when I parked too close to the side (even stepped on it while it was against the cabinet, not realizing it had actually hit the cabinet,) etc.

They stick out to the side when the tailgate is down. So you only have to raise your foot to knee height instead of hip height. Also let you put one hand on the back corner of the bed (usually in a stake pocket), and one foot on the bumper and "pull" yourself up. Then step around the tailgate strap/bar/cable onto the tailgate.

As for me? I have a receiver-mount step. Something I had on my F-250 before my Rivian. Because it's more useful than the bumper step, having multiple levels. It helped me get up TO the bumper step.

I do agree all the tailgates are getting taller in general. It's happening as fast as I'm getting older which isn't a good thing.

I run about 245 on the scale at 6'2" tall without apparal. With anything more than flip flops and swim trunks as attire I'm easily over the 250lb rating. Especially in the winter with size 13 boots, coveralls, heavy coat, and 10lbs of crap in my pockets at any given moment. Considering the number of problems I've had with this truck already, I'm not giving Rivian any excuse to deny a claim, so I stay off the doors.

With as fragile as the rest of this bed and tailgate is I'm really surprised you can beat on the gear tunnel doors at that level. I've already broken both side rail plastics, the rear tailgate plastic, the soft open actuator, and the tailgate has been realigned twice and needs it again. No way I would trust jumping on much of anything on this truck.

In todays episode of "Why did I buy this stupid thing".......

Wife had a screw in her tire. Plugged it, and used the air compressor to add air back to it. When to stow the hose in the under bead storage because I wasn't in the mood to "refold it" in 20deg weather, and guess what. Handle broken/frozen in place. Can't access the spare tire compartment. Was able to pull like dammit, and use a screwdriver to pry one corner up, but the far corner wouldn't release.

Yet another example of a wildly over complicated solution to something that has been solved for decades NOT working when I need to use it. Really glad I didn't actually have to actually use the spare tire for the truck. Would've been calling service to tow the stupid POS back to the service center AGAIN.

This thing is worthless as a tool. I'm becoming more and more convinced of it every time I interact with it. Only 18mo left.

Oooh, let me tell you about the time that the spare tire hanger/dropper thingie on my old truck was stuck in place by rust and mud and I needed the tire. Who the hell hangs this stuff off the bottom of a truck?

Also, frozen truck parts seem like an indictment on your choice of place to live, LOL.
