Until the terms are posted it’s unclear how legitimate the case was against Rivian. Frequently the bigger company has a greater incentive to litigate a weak case than the smaller company as they have more disposable cash to throw at legal fees and those fees hurt the smaller guy more.

If there was a settlement it most likely means the suit was bullshit to begin with because if it was legitimate Tesla would want blood. They have the money to make the damages hurt and the resources to withstand appeals.

With that said Rivian could have just caved if they were guilty and paid a hefty price.

Oh, so this is why RJ gave all those interviews trying to frame Rivian's path as different than Tesla's, even though Rivian copies Tesla relentlessly in all things. It was just posturing for this lawsuit.

Rivian made a motion to dismiss the case, as is standard, and it denied, so there was at least some evidence, but Musk is such a prick I would wager the evidence is minuscule. Some departing employees may have made bad decisions, but I doubt Rivian ever encouraged trade secret theft. Copying Tesla's strategy and UI design is not the same thing as stealing trade secrets.
