Tailgate won't close

Since day 1 I had an issue where I had warning tailgate was open when it wasn't when I would go uphill. I scheduled service for this wayyy out as while annoying wasn't urgent. Now I have a tailgate that won't close. Unacceptable. I live in the city and can't drive with tailgate hanging open. I have called service to accelerate. We will see. Anyone else have this issue? I have had car for only a couple ofweeks and was really hoping I woudnt have big issues. Super frustrating.

I’m having same issue and my R1T is just 2 weeks old. I’m waiting for service to get back to me but in meantime I discovered that if I hold the tail gate up and press the release button for the tail gate that the latch system engages. Counter intuitive but worked as a temp fix.

Thank you! I was able to get the tailgate up that way. Are the sensors around the truck still off as it thinks the tailgate is still down? Thanks again!

I didn’t have any issues with my sensors, but the app is telling me to service the tailgate. I’m chatting w service now to determine if mobile service can fix or If I need to schedule an appointment

I had a mobile technician come to my house to address the tailgate issue. Turns out it was a coding error message in the rear compartment that he had to reset. Good news is that it was mechanical but the sensors weren’t getting proper codes, so a glitch in the software apparently. A simple restart did not fix the issue, but he was able to reset codes and I don’t need to take it to the service center.

Thank you for the trick to get it to latch. I have had the same issue start up this morning. Still thinks the tailgate is open but at least it's closed.

I just got my R1T back from service. I don’t know if these were coincidental or caused by service.

Since new, I have had to slam the tailgate to get is to show closed for the sensors to work. Yesterday, I could not get the warning to go away. Using a. screwdriver, with the tail gate open, I could easily get the driver’s side to latch and release with the push of the button. The passenger side would not release. I tried WD-40, and that did not help. I took the bed apart and when I unbolted the latch, it started working. When I retorqued the bolts, it would not latch again. I could torque the bottom bolt, but had to leave the top bolt torqued lightly. I will get some locktite red and put it in there for now, but eith my latch is a bad one or the whole fleet has this issue. I remember our demo drive had the same issue.
I will write it up for service the next time i am forced to go into service for something I can not repair myself.

I had to bring mine to the service center. They found that the latch on the driver's side was defective and replaced it. It works great now, I can close it with 1 finger now.

I have had multiple tailgate latches fail. They're plastic, and not robust enough for the use/roads down here. I'm hoping for a redesign.

Today marks the third time I'm having failures of some sort with these tailgate latches. First it was the left one, then the right one, now neither seem to want to latch at all and I can't keep the tailgate closed.

I’m on my second round of the lift gate not closing. I didn’t touch it after the first service appointment. Went skiing this week and open the gate to get my skis out and it stopped latching. Really annoying after dealing with a major snow storm at the moment and the gate won’t close. Luckily getting mobile service but not until 2/5.

For me was the latches. They replaced both on mobile service. So far so good…
