Will they be able to retrofit LiDAR hardware to current R2s later?
the confusing message was that it will be available to current deliveries as well once it launches
They will not be retrofitting cars.

Any benefit from the next Gen R2 will be years away.

Yeah I said eff it and am getting the LE. If the current hardware can do what Tesla is doing now, which they said it can, then that's all I need. I'll call it L2+. I am also VERY skeptical of any OEM promising L3 or L4 on any hardware at any time until someone actually does it. And if they do actually achieve it I'll just look into buying whatever is out there at that time, vs. trying to figure it out today and just wild guessing. When OEM's have to accept liability for accidents then you know they have faith in it. Until that time it's all noise.

Shoutout to @DuoRivian for convincing me! :giggle:

Anyone who is expecting robust autonomy and parity with Tesla is grossly ignoring the obvious: Tesla's has been in development much longer than anyone else and has not sold that knowledge to anyone else. Everyone as to start somewhere and not everyone is at the same stage of their development journey.

This isn't to say you should be discouraged about the R2. Just like any Tesla, because of continued software development, the R2 you take delivery of is and will be the least capable version of it. It will get better with time and with each OTA update. Rivian's head of software said as much.

This isn't an excuse. It's just reality.
