Yes, in general I've found mine to have poor quality components and poor workmanship.

This is not news, it's been that way, quite literally, for years now.

Why does everyone on here want one then? I had mine for 3.5 years and it would brick once per year and I only put on 15k miles total. So many non stop issues. But I would mention that on this forum and everyone would get mad st me. Meanies on here or something

Model 3/Y are very well built and they used the data the millions of vehicles on the road to make even more improvements to the Highland/Juniper refreshes. Call me crazy, but when the studies come out in a few years these new Teslas will have Lexus/Toyota caliber reliability...they are still behind on fit and finish though. Rivian just doesn't have enough data, or a mature enough industrial operation at this point to make huge strides in quality....hopefully they will do their best to get there eventually, but it will take time.

Everyone's experience is unique. I've had other cars (eg, Mini Cooper) that were far worse for issues. My midyear 2023 R1T has had a few issues: wind noise from A-pillar trim near the top, a suspension sensor that corroded, a half-shaft thunk, and wait times to get in for service (at least in Boston), but Rivian was responsive for the suspension and half-shaft and I haven't reported the A-pillar since I found a fix myself.

But build materials feel solid and driving experience is phenomenal. Utility is exceptional. All in all, for a first run vehicle, I find it pretty amazing. Now, if continued production doesn't improve, then that is an issue.

My $0.02 and YMMV.

Have you ever heard about the angle of the dangle?

Rivian.webp
Rivian owners are very satisfied because they are getting incredible service currently, once there are hundreds of thousands of R2s on the roads the service centers will be packed and the parts delivery infrastructure will be inadequate and people will complain. It will then take time to build up the service infrastructure. Same thing happened at Tesla when Model 3 was released.

You own one but asking if they're unreliable?

I've owned 5 Tesla's now since 2015 and 2 Rivian R1T's. The amount of small issues I've had are very comparable between both brands - that has been my experience.

Do you work for Rivian? One of the primary reasons I finally sold my Rivian was because the service sucked so much, in every single way. Sucked sucked sucked. Did I say Rivian service sucked?

And that's coming from someone who had a deposit down for the original launch addition for two years before launch and owned it for 3.5 years.

Sucked.

My vehicle (52k miles) has been awesome and the few minor service experiences (12v proactively replaced, windshield replacement) have been very good.

Mine is in service every 45 days on average. The service experience has been largely great overall. I've never had another vehicle have as many problems, or been as easy to deal with getting them resolved. As best I can tell from anecdotal responses I read online, service center quality and customer experience is driven largely by region and how busy the service center is. I'm in western New York, and there are very few Rivians running around. Service visits are easy to et scheduled (often with a day or two), and they act quickly. I hear southern California and much of the west coast isn't this way.

@Christopher1000 This is why so many people buy them, and most like them.

When the truck isn't broken, rattling, or denying me entry, it's really a fantastic vehicle. When it is broken, rattling, or denying me entry I get a quad motor R1S to drive around while Rivian "fixes" the issue. No cost out of pocket, nice people to talk to about it, and very little impact to my daily life.

I **might** buy another one. It won't be because it doesn't have problems, and it won't be because it's the best built. All vehicles have problems, This one has more than I've ever experienced in a single unit, but at least this company stands firmly behind it's product and seems to genuinely care about customer satisfaction. I'll take that over a GM dealership that only has 1-2 EV techs in the region, or a Ford dealership where they've discontinued the make/model that fits my needs AND doesn't have trained techs. If I'm going to have a shitty vehicle that I overpay for, at least I can minimize the impact to daily life, right?

Maybe I should buy an old GM pickup and save a ton of money?

Okay, you are an early adopter, had bad service experiences, and sold your Rivian. You have moved on, and the point of your post is what? Why now? Seems like you are having trouble letting go and moving on. From my perspective, service has been very good at my service center (Richmond VA). I think services experiences are a local thing, not a brand thing.

Well, I'm also someone who had a deposit down for the original lauch edition for a little less than two years and has owned an R1T for 3.5 years now, and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned, by far. In addition, in literally **every single conversation** that I have had with other Rivian owners at the Rivian chargers, they feel the same, absolutely love the car.

No doubt, there are going to be unhappy owners for various reasons, some Rivian's fault and others not, but in general, this is a great car company, and the data tend to reinfore that sentiment. I'm not familiar with Autoblog, which is one of the few datapoints to dispute Rivian's excellent reputation, but I feel like that article is an outlier right now.
