Has anyone here taken delivery of a 2024 R1S/T able to file amended 2022 tax return (via binding agreement) thru Turbotax desktop edition? I am in the process of doing this but when it asks the year model, the latest year is only at 2023 and no option for 2024 model year. I wonder ifTurbotax online includes the year 2024 as an option.
I am wondering this as well. I tried calling turbotax earlier today but they had already closed for the weekend. I'll call back on Monday and see what they say.

Yes, mine is a 2024 and I just listed it as a 2023 on my 2022 amended return. Got my 7500 plus interest about 3 weeks ago

When did you file? I took delivery of my 2023 R1S November 10, 2023 and mailed my tax amendment in because TurboTax said I couldn't efile it. Sent it certified mail. I know they got it well before Thanksgiving but IRS says they got it Dec 4, 2023. They still haven't processed it. Every time I call, I'm told to give it another 30 days. I followed the directions in the Rivian email perfectly.

I did. Was told very little other than the IRS is backlogged.
I'm still waiting too. Every time I call, I'm told to give them another 30 days.

I filed my amended 2022 tax return last year after taking delivery, the IRS received it in early-July. As with many people on this thread, I called the IRS nearly every 30 days after the initial 16 week timeframe passed and received no update other than “call back in 30 days.” I finally received an update when I called last week that my “changes to 2022 return have been entered” and I received the full $7,500 credit as a refund plus interest. The total direct deposit in my account ended up being nearly $8,300. Frustrating to wait over a year, but glad it’s over.

In my case I filed early this year, as soon as the 16 weeks were done, the tracking system was showing an error and asked me to call in. When I called in I got a really nice person that saw that my paperwork was not assigned, so he assigned it to himself and processed it. Received the check within 3 weeks after that.

Reviving this for 2024 tax season ?‍♂

I never got an email like this, and now my 2024 taxes keep getting rejected.

Rivian R1T R1S Rivian Tax Credit Email 1000002479

I never received an email or any paperwork from Rivian for the Form 15400, and it looks like they never submitted the VIN to IRS. Has anyone else had 2024 issues?

When I was doing the steps to purchase my R1T in Aug 2024 (Sep 2024 delivery) and filling out items like uploading my driver's license, uploading insurance, selecting payment/loan options, one of the questions was "do you plan on claiming the tax credit?". You had to answer affirmative to that for them to generate the necessary paperwork that was required after the IRA was passed in 2022 modifying the EV tax credit.

Do you remember that option? Did you say you were claiming the credit? You'll probably need to contact Rivian (I'd use the 888-RIVIAN-1 phone number) to get this straightened out (assuming the VIN matches your actual VIN).

This thread looks to be people that signed a binding purchase agreement in August 2022 to be able to claim the old tax credit. To claim under the old rules, if you had a signed binding purchase agreement, you could amend your 2022 tax return to claim the old credit for a purchase in 2023, 2024, ???. For those of use that did not have this agreement, the credit would be claimed with the new rules, which require the dealer to submit paperwork on your behalf to the IRS at the time of purchase.

I do not remember that question, and I did ask for the binding agreement back then... But that was before I was able to purchase a Lightning, the same year as my R1T, and maxed out my 2022 credits... There's like $400 left, so it makes more sense to claim in 2024 instead.

With pending legislation that kicks in within 30 days, I'm going to blow them up tomorrow to get a copy of that paperwork. I don't think they ever submitting it to the IRS.

For others having the same IRS issue with the Clean Vehicle credit and needing a Form 15400, do a chat and ask for it to be expedited. I emailed and never heard back, so a week later I did a chat and asked for response ETA. "No ETA, asking for as soon as humanly possible." This echos the same issues I had with getting the MCO corrected, crickets from the team and once it hits their desk, flooded with responses.
