Rivian software is (still) an embarrassment and needs to get better fast before R2

My Samsung proximity unlock bt only works reliably if my phone is facing screen out in my pocket. The OP has weird issues. I wonder if they only present when his wife's phone is present; like different settings in her profile getting used.

I'm 3 years in and have not experienced any of the issues you describe. When approaching the vehicle and my phone is in my back pocket I will have to take it out or turn my back to the vehicle. Everything else works perfectly. 45,000 miles in.

my 2023 Gen1 R1S Quad has been literally perfect. -- when you have cascading bugs that don't see related it sounds like there might be a hardware issue in your vehicle. - Rivian Service is the best I have ever used, (Former Tesla Model X, Model 3, Prosche Taycan, Macan, Cayanne, 2 Range Rovers... ). get the car into the service center go over the issue in detail. I am confident they will fix them.

Phone unlock is a bit random in my experience. OTOH, the new wallet key works perfectly every time on gen 2.

If only the rest of my life was so easy.

Rivian is all-hands-on-deck for R2, so they're likely only trying to quash the important bugs now. Entirely possible while doing this that they introduce new ones for their existing vehicles. They are trying to keep the User experience as hardware/platform agnostic as they can. I'm sure this is a big part of why they are suffering so many strange bugs.

I did have an issue with my vehicle not unlocking without pulling my phone out earlier. Seems like there's something causing the proximity system to crash out, because it didn't auto-lock after that either.

My SoC prediction at destination was within 5% on this last trip, so not sure what that "bug" is.
There are those who don't mind not getting what they paid for. But it does help when you have a comprehensive knowledge base of zonal architecture and knowing this platform is highly reliant complex code (no excuse but have you ever had someone speak to you at a high level using words you didn't understand like a doctor). Zonal has a unique clitch profile with aspects to physical reliability, software bugs and recovery. Plus a fix is not a soft or hard reboot. Challenges are the key to Rivian's growth and suucess.

As for "kneel when parked," the truck won't kneel if you open the door while in drive--forcing it to place itself in park. I intentionally do this at times when I'm driving alone and don't care to have it kneel. I'd probably turn it off all together except my wife and in-laws comment on the height, so I try to make it easier for them.

I generally just press the door handle at home then it unlocks in like 1-2 seconds.
Really wish Gen1 had this feature. But I similarly turned off PAAK at home and open the app to unlock. I suppose there's a possibility that my opening the app daily also helps keep the connection between the app and truck stable....

Anyone have this problem? 2024 R1T, 2025.38.0. Set the truck to charge to 85% at a level two charger. Two hours later opened the app on my iPhone (3.8.1) to check on the charge and the app said 93%. Got in the truck said 85%. Drove a half mile home truck still said 85%. iPhone app said 93% and the app on my iPad also said 93%. Any ideas?

Cloud sync of charge status is, well, async. Maybe it was charged at 93% at some point in time in the recent past.

I haven't run into this in my one year of ownership, but also know that the updates from the vehicle to the cloud to the app can be a little laggy but it generally works reasonably on Gen 2 which I have. Sometimes you just hit the red cloud - even with strong WiFi, 1 gig fiber and solid cell signal. Then it's clearly a Rivian server issue but they should have figured out how to use AWS properly what with the big Amazon investments. Or maybe not.
