Rivian Service - what a blind spot (Marin County)

First off - I love my R1S.

That said, the service is almost laughably bad.

We live in Marin County where there are an ungodly number of Rivians.

We have to travel 45 mins+ to any of the service centers, and then it usually still takes 3ish weeks to get an appointment.

And then you can't dial the service center directly - you have to go thru the main Rivian 800 number. And of course the service center doesn't pick up.

Not what I would expect when paying $110k for a car.

Be thankful you don't live in Bend, OR. We, arguably, have the highest concentration of Rivian's in the country. We are about 3.5 hours from the nearest service center (assuming there's not much snow on the roads in wintertime or roads are closed due to forest fires in the summer.)

Anyhow, sorry to hear of your problems. Hopefully, Marin County will get a Service Center soon.

You're still closer to a service center than I am - about 4 hours to Bellevue! The bigger Seattle SC is even further away. It would be nice if Spokane got a Service Center soon.....

Does the Portland SC have a mobile tech that is based out of the Bend area? There's one here in Spokane, but I've not been able to figure out how Rivian (or Tesla, back in the day) determined if one would be assigned to a region.

We have a mobile tech that comes over from the valley. I think it's for about 3 days a week. I haven't heard of getting a SC east of the Cascades (I've asked) but Amazon is opening a warehouse/distribution center in Redmond, OR. Maybe we'll get a local service center when that happens.

I have to head over next month to have the latest recall service performed. We usually end up spending the night, so we aren't driving over and back in a single day.

I'm lucky with a SC about a mile from my office. Only reason I considered buying a Rivian. Appointments are a month out, but drop off and pickup are easy with Uber credits for the day of service.

On another note, last service the Uber I took was a Waymo to the office, they're all over Atlanta now. Very bizarre experience, but showed me there isn't a need for a human driver anymore unless you want to chat with your drive. It's not perfect and look like hell, but better than the average Atlanta driver 100%.

In 20 years, I can definitely see myself without a car (or license) getting around in some version of a self driving vehicle anywhere I want to go.

Even in Southern California which arguably has the most Rivian service centers, it takes more than 45 minutes to get to any one of them due to gridlock traffic. Be glad your center is “just” 45 min away.

Well, according to their service center map, it least it looks like they have one in the works in the Rohnert Park (apparently at 5000 Dowdell).

That still took longer than I would think...Tesla opened their first service center in the North Bay at the end of 2012/early 2013, so basically right when the Model S was hitting more "volume" production.

I'm anxiously awaiting a service center to go in somewhere in the Gilroy/Monterey Bay area. Tesla opened their service center in Marina at the end of 2015/early 2016, and I see a fair number of Rivians down there, so it'd be nice to get something south of San Jose opened.

Not what you want to hear, but “patience” and pray R2 sell like hot cakes… which will allow Rivian to grow and put SCs in more places. This is a growth issue that can only be solved with time and growth in customer base.
