Those of us with early pricing are the outliers in terms of depreciation, I imagine, but my purchase price was 77k - call it 70k after federal refund.

Currently seeing '22s with low miles in the mid 50k range. $50k is lowest, but with 60k miles or more. $60k is highest with low miles (20k miles).

Puts my depreciation at 20% after almost 3 years, which is pretty awesome.
I was seeing $50k lightly used R1Ts as well late last year. I figured that would always be high compared to many of the early adopters when the truck was $70k new, but perhaps back before Gen1 was out of stock, we were already seeing $90-100k trims for new vehicles, and that made a 50% discount seem like very high depreciation?

I'm not aware that the price has moved a ton in the used market, but the narrative sure has changed.

My guess it's a shorter term support floor from Tesla defectors. Once the fervor has died down or the vast majority of the switches completed; you'll see the large depreciation drops again.
The CyberYuck™ is taking one for the team and usurping all of the previous R1 depreciation. So much so that Tesla refused to even accept them as trade-ins up until like yesterday...

Or people are finally realizing the CT is the ridiculous albatross it is.

EVs don't depreciate any different than gas vehicles.

All vehicles depreciate when NEW models undergo price cuts. That just doesn't happen with gas cars since they're 100 year old technology and the price almost only goes one direction - UP.

I swear, not 6 months ago I was hearing how Rivians had some of the worse EV resale value around, with low-mileage quads going for $50k. Now, I'm hearing that that Rivian is a shining exception to the rest of the industry.

Am I remembering wrong, or did something change that caused this turnaround?
Rivian offers $67,000 for trade in of my 18 month old R1S quad. with 14,000 miles...about a $30K drop from cost and then wants the trade plus $50K for a new trimotor variant. My conclusion is that the trade in value is horrible.

that is so inaccurate lol. EV depreciate at a much faster rate than gas powered vehicle and on top of that most dealerships want nothing to do with them. They can barely sell the new EVs they have on their lot.

This is false. Tesla vehicles depreciated due to new price cuts on new models. Rivians depreciate at the same rate as other vehicles. Most EVs are ordered and delivered or picked up from service centers.

GM and Ford are the only two domestic brands that have "lots" and those are typically ordered vehicles that the buyer bailed on and didn't convert to a purchase. EV buyers are often younger and more savvy than ICE buyers. We order vehicles, we don't walk lots and randomly take home EVs.

There are also obvious reasons why Teslas are losing value/demand. Something to do with the CEO. /s

Not all GM, Ford and other legacy brand's EVs are ordered by customers. Some are ordered by the dealerships... anticipating what their local customers prefer. Sometimes they guess right. Sometimes they guess wrong.

If I owned a Dodge lot, I wouldn't pre-order 50 Charger EVs.

If they debuted with 1400 HP and 0-60 times of 1.9 seconds -- sure.

LOL

I feel their resale isn't bad at all. I bought my '22 a little less than a year ago used with 22k miles for $52k. Rivian offered me $49.5k trade-in a couple weeks ago when I looked into maybe trading in to a gen2, and that's after putting another 30k miles on the truck.

You really do need to educate yourself better on the topic.

Where should we look? Any facts to back this up?
I have worked at a dealership and have friends who still do at various dealerships. Also, now that the EV incentives are going away come Jan 1st be prepared for even more of a loss. If you also have watched any sort of new media, you will have seen that multiple big name auto manufactures have rolled backed their EV plans and vehicles. This effect the rest of the EV out in the market not just theirs. Demand for EV's is at a low and to double down on all the incentives going away and new fee's being mandated by federal govt makes owning an EV even less desirable.

belive what you wish to belive though, doesn't hurt me :)
