A little off-roading over the weekend.

Took the Rivian loaded up with the four of us and the Long Dog down to Hollister from the Coastside yesterday - just shy of 100 miles one-way there. Left at 85%, arrived at around 52%. So 33%, around 40kWh, used on the way down. About normal for Conserve in/around the bay area at higher speeds.

Got to Hollister just shy of 11, did the trails around the 4-wheel section of the park, then goofed off in the the Obstacle Course area for another hour or so. A few built Jeep rigs, a ton of Side-by-Sides (and a couple of them were monsters). While I’ve been an avid off-roader since I was a kid, I’m still on 21” A/S - they performed spectacularly for what they are. Absolutely have their limitations, but for the vast majority of what I’ll be doing close-ish to home - perfect.

The water pit was only about 2’ deep. The looks I got when about to enter it from those that knew it was an electric vehicle … priceless.

Return home: charged at the EA in Watsonville (mobile reader wasn’t working, but otherwise 90kW from 40-81%). Got lunch at The Crazy Chicken across the parking lot, upping the charge max from 70% right about the time my food arrived. Drove through Santa Cruz, grabbed cookies at Pacific Cookie Company (as one does). Other than my center console finally deciding to stop working (it’s been trying to since new), truck was flawless.

Some pics for fun.

My Rivian Blue R1T next to a Porsche Cayman. I think this is Shark Blue? Whatever it is, it’s super close to Rivian Blue.

With a August 15, 2020 reservation, I was very happy to take delivery of my R1S on March 4, 2023. It was worth the wait!

The delivery was easy and straighforward. There was not much new for me as I had done a lot of research as well as having done a test drive. The vehicle was as expected and in great shape. It came at 84% charge, which was a question I had beforehand.

I am very thrilled to take ownership. I drive a lot... about 27k in 2022 balancing work between Flagstaff, Sedona and trip to Phoenix and traveling to trail run. I previously owned a model Y, which I was fortunate to buy in Dec 2021 and sell in Dec 2022 dodging the price increase and then decrease.

The Y did not provide enough space, build nor ruggedness. Lots of plastic and flimsy parts. It is not a "SUV" as Tesla advertised, IMO. It's a street car and I don't think it warranted the price (Dec 2021 price). I am glad I had locked in the initial R1S price but would probably pay more for the R1S. It's amazing so far and I'm excited to learn more as I drive it.

I hope this is helpful.

I waited 1567 days for this day! For those of you still waiting, I feel your pain... all I can say is that it's definitely worth the wait!

I finally picked her up earlier today on a cloudy, wet, gloomy day. It literally rained all day, but I managed to take a short drive through the hills of Palos Verdes. Super stoked to finally have a vehicle large enough for my family, and really looking forward to going on some road trips soon!

The vehicle certainly has some issues, and I'm sure I'll find some more over the next several days. My front passenger mud flap is missing, the bumper trim piece had scratches due to train transportation (apparently common according to the person I spoke with), and there's some misalignment of the trim piece along the length of the roof where it meets the top of the trunk on the driver's side.

Regardless, I'm really happy with everything so far. The one weirdness I had was that the GPS voice sounded muffled during navigation. Apparently, it's an issue that I think can be resolved in the software in due time. However, in order to remedy the situation I had to power down the vehicle and start it back up; rebooting the infotainment system wasn't enough.

Anyways, it's headed off to get tinted tomorrow morning. I haven't decided whether to get PPF too, but I may hold off on that decision until I get all the external flaws fixed by my Rivian Service Center next month.

Got my ride tinted today... went with XPEL Prime XR Plus 70% on all the factory tinted windows and the front widshield, and 35% for the front sides.

I'm happy with the result, but unfortunately, this morning I also noticed that a piece of the rear passenger side windows trim is coming off. :(
