What makes you think they completely dropped them?
Because they didn't announce them as the first stops?

I never expected that all the original listed cities would be held simultaneously, and I suspect the first four they just listed will not be either. Those are likely the ones to be held on various dates in September, with the October cities released later.
I don't think they dropped them from the future. But they did not list them in this initial list of cities.

I did interpret their original communication as they would be occurring (basically) simultaneously.
Rivian R1T R1S Official Email: Our First Mile Event Tour is hitting the road 1630445177541

They've now changed the list of initial cities to this:
Rivian R1T R1S Official Email: Our First Mile Event Tour is hitting the road 1630445219046

I'm just curious why. Was the original list intended to be sequential between those six cities? The language did not imply a hierarchy.

If it's really "LA, SF, and NYC in September with Seattle, Chicago, and Detroit in October" why not say that? Instead they've relegated the other previously named cities to the same level of expectation for an event as literally anywhere else in the Country in their current email:
Rivian R1T R1S Official Email: Our First Mile Event Tour is hitting the road 1630445471630

For all we know from the email they may spend 1 month in the first three cities, or they may spend 4 months there and not visit other cities until 2022. It just seems weird to me to have explicitly called out the other three cities specifically in their story announcing them originally, and then not at all mentioning them now.

Oof, I was about to say something about Bellevue/Seattle, but I just realized neither are on the list. SF and LA seems a bit redundant. Very surprised the PNW isn't represented
There are more people in LA county alone than in all of Washington.
San Francisco metropolitan population is also greater than that of all of WA, and that excludes much of the region.

the cachments for those two sites is huuuge.

It doesn't appear to be about truck sales volume. NY gets about 3% of the total truck sales in the Country or something like that. CA is about 7%. TX is about 13%. The initial city list looks very much like the largest media locations + Normal. Which is fine. They just did a poor job communicating what the other "first cities" can expect for a timeline.

Though I suppose from there, if its a traveling circus of sorts, that one could head up the coast to PNW and the other east to AZ, TX, or CO
From the job descriptions for the event people:
  • Participate in a 4-month travelling demonstration drive tour program with 100% travel within the United States.
  • Engage with customers 4-6 days a week on foot and outdoors with travel to and from the next location

I don’t think Rivian preorders necessarily correlate to traditional truck sales, I was thinking of just total population.

They’ve chosen some of the larger centres, plus their factory which is an obvious choice.

I asked the Cs rep about the August date in that page and she told me that the correct date was Sept and that all cities written there were not necessarily going to be available for test rides initially. However, it looks like they never fixed the article. I agree that even if their plans changed, they could've informed everyone about it.... well, I guess they did with this latest email.

It does not matter. The vast majority of us are not getting trucks in the next 6-9 months so there is plenty of time for the traveling roadshow to make it around. I am waiting for the come to my house test drive.

Seattle has a completed service center.
Maybe they are not planning to an event in Seattle because deliveries are happening there first and they have a kick off event planned for first deliveries. Let's stay positive!

I wonder where the folks that don't live in the lower 48 will get invites too? If the event is on my off week I'm willing to fly just about anywhere.

It’s not about the city directly but the surrounding areas. NYC will serve large portions on NY state, PA(Philadelphia), New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and possibly D.C. You're probably talking about ~25 million people.
Just my IMO and I get people’s frustration

EDIT-I take back what I said. This is strictly a media blitz. NY, SF, LA, and HQ Factory. Plain and simple. Also, if you happen to be a LE holder close then you get an invite till they fill the event based on distance.
But glad they are starting access!!!

I did not receive one. I’m a R1T preorder, but I only reserved a few weeks ago. I did get my picture of the R1T in the mail this week

My only contribution is I am an LE R1S holder and I got an email as well. Maybe we can finally get some R1S love. Of course I’m in Austin so no clue to when we get to see the traveling road show.

I think this email went out to all pre-order customers. I am in the middle of Canada, only preordered this July, and got it.

Normal is about 1h45m from me, so I hope I can get an invite. I am wondering though will it be R1T and R1S? I am also hoping by that time they are official production vehicles.
