If Tesla built a Hyundai Santa Cruz style pickup based on the Model 3/Y platform and sold it for under $50k, and the Cybertruck was the full size truck based on a new Model S/X platform with typical Tesla design cues, I would have been much more impressed. Plus they could have used the Cybertruck development to build the new platform for a Model S/X replacement. They could've designed something incredibly beautiful, sleek and along the lines of what their current line up is like. I don't think I will ever understand..
Instead they are left with an ugly truck built on a bespoke platform that offers no platforming opportunities. Compare this to Rivian who is building three vehicles off of the R1 platform and planning another 3-4 vehicles on the R2 platform.
