They could've designed something incredibly beautiful, sleek and along the lines of what their current line up is like. I don't think I will ever understand..
If Tesla built a Hyundai Santa Cruz style pickup based on the Model 3/Y platform and sold it for under $50k, and the Cybertruck was the full size truck based on a new Model S/X platform with typical Tesla design cues, I would have been much more impressed. Plus they could have used the Cybertruck development to build the new platform for a Model S/X replacement.

Instead they are left with an ugly truck built on a bespoke platform that offers no platforming opportunities. Compare this to Rivian who is building three vehicles off of the R1 platform and planning another 3-4 vehicles on the R2 platform.

Tesla undoubtedly has more plans for the CT platform. To claim that Rivian is more strategic in manufacturing than Tesla is likely the unique opinion of Rivian owners.

Tesla hasn't built more vehicle models to date because its not additive to their yearly total vehicle. production. Adding CT means reducing model Y/3 production.

Rivian likely would be better off if they had just built the R1S to date. More models for the same volume means lower margins. The van is unlikely to ever produce above average margins.

Selling products at below cost is the easiest way to manufacture products that consumer like.

I think you're severely discounting the benefits of the 'first mover' advantage in Rivian releasing an electric truck. I sincerely doubt they'd be as successful as they've been thus far, or have as much potential going forward, had they only released an electric SUV.

I also believe order statistics have born out that the truck is more popular than the SUV, tho that is likely skewed at this early stage and might change later.

At the end of the day, while the options for an electric SUV weren't apples to apples to an R1S, there were no options for an electric truck. That matters.

I also think it's fairly asinine to suggest Rivian wasn't smart enough to build appropriate margins into their contract with Amazon, or the ability to adjust pricing as costs change.

I can now see that my time in GM manufacturing and later business school was wasted. I could have just used my feels for knowledge.

Because clearly if you've never gone to business school or worked in GM manufacturing you can only be operating off 'feels' and can't have any knowledge or expertise of your own.

I don't care how many angles they take pictures of that thing, it's still ugly. at least the fan boys will have something new to get all giddy about. I can already hear screaming on the insurance premiums on those things...as aluminum (or whatever it is) has to be $$$

Why are y'all dissing on the Delica?! They are awesome and very popular around here. I have almost bought one more than once.
No dissing here either...I meant it when I said I would absolutely dive one. I think it's awesome.

I don't always get butthurt when someone responds to sarcasm with sarcasm, but when I do, I prefer to do it on internet forums.

Lol.

I love how every Tesla mention in a thread turns into a battle of who's smarter. :swear:

How reflective is the unpainted stainless steel exterior going to be? Is it brushed enough to not be blindingly reflective? It's hard to tell from the photos and videos that are available so far, but I'm at least a little concerned that these things will be blinding in direct sun and could cause accidents because of it.
I hope it's really reflective and that my retinas are seared before having to witness that atrocity in person.

Of course you die in a 15mph head on collision. But the gas mileage and visibility are excellent.
