I rarely take our Model Y out of Chill mode. It helps me to remain more subdued so I drive more with the flow and avoid that impulse that causes me to burn thru tires like cash is irrelevant. Maybe they should add the word "Tires" after Conserve so new to EV owners won't have to learn the hard way what instant torque does to the wallet when used too often...😁

It sounds like Conserve means very different things across the different models, for OG R1s it was a way to maybe increase range by 10-20 miles, if lucky and stars align...it was also a good way to increase wear on the front tires...some newer R1 variants may actually benefit from conserve...with the R2 Performance it appears to have little real-world impact on range (if judging soley on Rivian's guess-o-meter)...TBD

I think the drivetrain decisions Rivian has made are more due to packaging and cost reduction. With R1 they were so far down their path on it that many things were closer to afterthought. R2 is result of lessons learned from R1. And in Carmudgeon podcast Jeff Hammoud briefly mentioned R1 (dual) with its front-biased regen tends to chew up tires more than R2’s rear-biased design. And from past interviews, R2 is rear-biased because of production and energy efficiencies that could be gained from packaging it like so.

Here’s hoping R1 G3 goes to RWD bias!

I'm not sold on the rear wheel bias. Have had a few instances of the rear tires skidding on dirty roads and making regen stopping less predictable.

Woah! Is that typically under hard braking? Or largely dependent on road surface?

Entirely depends on the road surface. Most of this was on asphalt roads that had sand and rocks scattered on them near stops, and regen on high.

I am curious how things are going to go in the winter time too though...
