I have been scouring this site and everywhere else, in search of the best bed rack for the R1T. Main criteria are for sturdiness, corrosion resistance and load bar height to match the roof top (forward) rails. Up until now my front runner has been the Range Industries Mariner design here: https://range-industries.com/products/rivian-r1t-mariner-bed-rack?
But today I found this old post that I couldn't find referenced in here: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1142019_rivian-patents-bed-rack-system
Any thoughts, or better, intel on this patent? I was surprised this article yielded only one comment... I'm pretty cynical myself so I do expect people to be realistic about patents actually coming to fruition, but this design looks pretty darn awesome.... Thoughts?

Xtrusion Overland. Great aluminum extrusion racks that can be ordered in various heights. I have the 19” version on my R1T. It is about even with the roof spoiler and does not completely block the bed rear view camera. I mount my RTT on it. Sounds like you may want a taller version. They are available in heights all the way up to match the Rivian roof mounted cross bars. As they are made of aluminum extrusions, there are countless options for mounting accessories. And, they look good!

All of these aftermarket racks for the R1T are “bend over and pass the Vaseline expensive”. It does seem like there is no shortage of owners willing to bend over. Almost 2 years ago I was in the same situation trying to find a rack system that would attach easily and be secure, and work in concert with the cab mounted cargo bars. It was surprising to me that the Rivian engineers had not already designed a solution to this problem. They were probably all focused on the cool tambour access to the gear tunnel from the back seat. (What did that cost?). My solution was to slightly modify my aluminum rack system from my previous F-150 Supercrew that I sold just prior to the R1T purchase. I drilled two holes at each base of the rack, aligned to the cargo bar mounting locations on the bed rails. I then used a 5/8” cable clamp u bolt, some 1/4” thick aluminum fish plates, s/s washers, and s/s nylon insert lock nuts to secure the rack to the cargo bar mounting locations. No vaseline needed. The rack was rock solid. I used it for everything from ladders, kayaks, to 16’ long pt 2 x 8 lumber. No issues ever. The design was simple enough, very cost effective, as I either had all the hardware on hand and fabricated the fish plates from flat stock also on hand. I only removed the rack system yesterday after two years on the truck . No evidence it was ever installed. The TracRac system will go on to my next truck. Good luck with your search, and don’t forget the Vaseline!

I have the XO rack height that matches roof mounted cross bars. No bed view camera issues. It is bomb proof sturdy. Consider It. Call XO if you have questions. They are a privately owned company- they get customer service.

Unless You have an 11’ paddle board you need to haul to Kalihiwai.

The Xtrusion Overland and Range Industries options do look really good, but are pretty expensive. XO, in particular, seems to be very expensive as such things go.

I'm considering options suitable for mounting a RTT that would have an upper height in the 8 - 14" range. I don't want the RTT to ride as low as it would with the Rivian crossbars, but I also do want to keep it low for minimal impact to drag/efficiency. The options I've looked at include these.

Range Industries Badwater Rack System ($775, 5" crossbar height): https://range-industries.com/products/rivian-r1t-low-rooftop-tent

Range Industries Siera Rack System ($1350, 13.5" crossbar height): https://range-industries.com/products/rivian-r1t-sierra-rack-system

Xtrusion Overland XTR1 Bed Rack for R1T ($2299, 14" crossbar height): https://xtrusion-overland.com/products/xtr1-bed-rack-stages-for-rivian-r1t?variant=45084639526969

The XO XTR1 claims to have 4 height options: low (10"), mid (14"), even with the rear cab spoiler (18"), and roof bar height (23"). Of these, the Low option would fit my needs best, but the drop-down on their webpage doesn't include this option, so I don't know what that price would be. That probably doesn't matter, though, as their prices are already what I consider to be astronomical for something like this. As @Wojo described, as nice as they are, they may require some vaseline...

UPDATE: Digging in a bit more, I see that XO can do custom sizes from 9" high to 23" high, in 1" increments. For some reason, the 9" version is more expensive ($2369) than the 14" they list at the link above. For reference, the custom page is here: https://xtrusion-overland.com/produ...wn-bed-rack-rivian-r1t?variant=41108295155769

I was also intrigued by Wojo's more DIY approach to modifying a non-Rivian-specific rack to work with the Rivian mounting system. This led me to an interesting option I've found on Amazon, which looks like it would need only a very similar adaptation to what Wojo did with his TracRac system - drill two holes in the bottom of each column part, add fish plates, and use U-bolts to attach to the built-in attachment point.

This option claims it can support 600 lbs static load / 450 lbs dynamic (probably optimistic), and it would give a crossbar height of 8". That makes it about ideal for what I *think* I want in terms of crossbar height, and at a far lower price: $199. For point of reference, the Rivian crossbars claim they can hold 600 lbs Static and 250 lbs dynamic, but would be much too low for my needs.

I have NO interest in RTT, what I want to haul is 2 by lumber that is 14' or longer. That means a roof height rack.

My Xtrusion Overland rack has served me well. Super modular and rock solid.

Looks amazing. Is this the 10 or 14 version? would you happen to have a picture of it mounted with a rooftop tent?

This is a 9" setup, before they standardized their sizes to 10"/14". I've never mounted a RTT on it, but you can find some images out there of people who have.
