When I did my First Mile last year, I was surprised by the amount of motor noise and wasn't expecting this. However, this was a BIG plus to me since I like vehicles with character and while going EV automatically eliminates a lot of that (engine and exhaust noise), I feel like the R1 motor noise preserves a little of that feel.

If you want a typical German silent cabin, then Rivian isn't for you, IMO.

800+ horse power and 4 motors vs an X45e.
Just want to mention my 45e was a fully loaded one and the MSRP (the 2024 MY has a huge price bump, and no longer qualify for Federal tax credit I believe) was even more expensive than the current R1T. For all the features the R1T offers, its pricing is very reasonable I think.

When you are at highway/cruising speeds, do you hear a constant whine or is it just on acceleration? It's the former that would worry me.
Generally not, and frankly even with acceleration I don't notice it but it must be there.

My R1S is a hell of a lot quieter than my wife's 911 and while the noises are different, and may take getting used to, it is every bit as quiet as our former GLS450 and quieter than my F-150.
Ah so we have the fancy car perspective, helpful Count thanks.

No, you do not hear. Honestly, you don't hear much when you are accelerating to pass etc.

I just got back in an ICE as my wife had the S, and I hated it. I am not some crazy electric dude but I guess I am becoming one.

Same here. They are simply a better design of vehicle. Quiet and instant response plus the accelerator pedal is perfectly linear. A press down a certain amount is always a specific amount of power application. Sure that varies acceleration on terrain but it's much less variability than you'd have in an ICE with terrain, engine RPM and gearing.

My young wife got tired of waiting for my R1S, which would have been hers, so we bought her a Tesla Y performance. At least I now get to choose the options on the R1S. I had a C8, should have kept it. My daughter threw a fit as there was no place for her. I liked the sound of the C8. I am not sure I can handle the R1S whine. My 10 year old daughter and wife will be surprised if I show up with another new C8. The only problem is that I can't live in the C8. On the road again. At least it is easier than living on a motorcycle which I did for a few months in 67. Route 66 all the way.
