2022 early vin, 85k mileage. I was just notified by the Rivian service center that my pick up has a cracked rear subframe, they want 5K to repair, and are refusing to cover it under any portion of the warranty. I’ve had two people from the service center have told me that they have seen this before so what that tells me is it’s a manufacturers flaw. Since I’m past my 60,000 mile comprehensive portion of the warranty they’re refusing to cover it I’ve asked them to elevate this to a higher level and they’re now offering me a potential buyback review. So this is just a warning to mainly all R1 T owners. Make sure you get a thorough inspection by the service center prior to your 60,000 miles expiring. i’ve asked them for pictures and a written report from the tack explaining how this could’ve happened, but so far they haven’t produce that. Since I live in California, I’ve contacted two law firms and seriously considering a lemon law claim. I have quite a history of service reports 19 visits sent over 112 days without the use of my truck so I’ve got a pretty substantial claim, shorter the fact that I do have a lot of miles on the vehicle.

Early 22s had welded subframes and there’s been a number of us that have had cracked frames replaced. Mine happened before the comprehensive warranty was up so it was covered.

Easier to inspect ourselves if we raise the truck up and look? got a weird knocking noise coming from left rear under acceleration while making a right turn...

Would love some pictures and description of what to check.

Good luck with Rivian buying it back. They were nice, but very firm negotiators when I went down that path.

Thanks for the response, I had no idea that it was something that I should have insisted on having fixed prior to the warranty expiration. 🧐

No doubt even worse on a high mileage vehicle! 🙃

@Davis This isn't something you can just insist Rivian fixes prior to end of bumper-to-bumper warranty. There has to be a crack in the subframe. I would recommend getting the comprehensive inspection before end of warranty and asking them to check for that specifically, though. You unfortunately had a crack appear after the warranty, and I highly doubt Rivian will cover this. It is a known issue, but that doesn't mean Rivian is on the hook for every vehicle. What if it happened at 120,000 miles? 175,000 miles? I too have a '22 LE R1 with the welded subframe, and I am at 90k miles. It may happen to me, and I just have to expect $5k for the fix at this point.

How does one go about getting a comprehensive inspection? Do they charge for that? I'm in the low 50k in mileage.

Sorry this happened to you @Davis

Cracked rear subframe? I don't recall reading about the rear, but lots of reports regarding a cracked front subframe. I guess it's just not that common...

$240 last time I did it at 57k miles. Well worth it if they find any issues. I'm sure you can just schedule it in the Rivian app.

Yep, just schedule it in the Rivian app. I did that a few months ago for the 30k recommended inspection. I also had them replace the cabin filter, which I could have done myself, but as an investor I wanted to throw them a profitable bone.
