Depending on the feature differences, I could definitely see myself trading in my R1 for an R2 - mainly for the reduction in size. I could see efficiency and insurance savings being motivating factors as well.
Great points. I never even thought about the savings.

Yes, definitely one reservation for a R2s to eventually replace wife’s TMY. If there is a R2t, will place another one to possibly replace my R1t down the road.

It will be interesting to see if there's an r2t. How small would it be do you think?

32k miles on my R1T. Going to put an order in for (3) R2’s.
(2) for my company for branded company vehicles (HELL YES!)
(1) for my mom because she wants a Rivian and wants a rooftop tent and to go camping with me!

Obviously still keeping my R1T too and will prob upgrade to the next generation R1 when it’s released. I absolutely love my truck though.

Just a bit smaller proportionally by 10-15% with same length bed would be perfect for me. Main thing I’d like would be for it to be lighter with a normal suspension.

Otherwise, I’m happy with the R1t for now until other options open up down the road.

I didn't even THINK about company vehicles. Mom's are the best do spoiling her is always a win. Great post!

We will likely end up with an R1S in the next 3-6 months, and then possibly add an R2 vehicle along side. My preference would be an R1S and an R2T (hopefully they make a truck variant 🤞). If they only offer the R2 in SUV form, it's probably 50/50 we go through with the order. It will likely be hard to give up the R1S and we don't need two SUVs.

That makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

Guessing that the wife’s Tesla 3 will be ready to trade in by the time Rivian is ready to deliver our order

So you're literally the target buyer for this vehicle competing with Tesla? I think the vehicle will be a hit for this very reason.

Will likely put $100 down for R2. But actual purchase will depend on the price, reviews, etc and especially having a service center within an hour or so drive - currently the nearest one is 5 hours away.

Even with pre-order pricing. the R1S is more money than we want/need to spend on a verhicle, and it is larger and just more vehicle than we need. Insuring it would also be about $800 more per year compared to a brand new 4Runner, which would eat up a lot of the gas savings. A more efficient, smaller, less complex, and less expensive R2 with "good enough" off-road capability would fit our needs a lot better actually. Hopefully they get it right and make it super reliable as well.

So we may just wait for the R2, NACS charging, and a local service center and never actually purchase the R1S we reserved 2 years ago.

Interestingly, you're the first person to post this reasoning. That's my point. Why not put the $100 down and see what happens?

Agreed - the 3 and the Y and the ICE comps
The promise of NACS opening up helps
