Really not sure how you're getting this far away from the root thread, and ultimately that situation was social engineering, not brute forcing a 4 digit pin. Whole lot of whataboutism, while we are at it, banks should stop using 4 digit pins at ATMs.
Not completely. They brute forced the "forgot password" reset system, which didn't have a limit on the number of attempts you could make.

He is correct there are 10k possibilities, any number between 0000-9999.

I don’t care if they implement it but I have never set it up on my Tesla.
But not correct when accompanied by the post he referred to. If you have 10 possibilities for each digit then, yes, there are 10^4 = 10,000 combos.

But the referenced post talked about the capability to use fingerprint smudges on the screen keypad to deduce the 4 numbers actually used in the PIN. This gives us 4! which equals 24 possible combos, assuming each digit is only used once.
