Why aren’t y’all just tinting the sunroof? I plan to get Xpel XR plus 70% installed as soon as the vehicle arrives.

Some folks want flexibility: just the glass in some conditions (winter) and shade in others (summer).

Makes sense. I personally like to have the windows down from time to time and would fear the shade coming off. That’s why I’ve decided to get it tinted to block out the heat. The tint I’m looking at is 98% heat rejection according to Xpel.

We bought the Rivigear Sunshade for our R1T for $50. We got it before we went to Normal to take Factory Delivery of Opal. We installed it before the trip back to Florida. It has worked very well for us. We installed it without the reflective opaque sheet. It cuts out 85% of the sunlight and a lot of the heat. It was easy to install and stays in place.

FWIW- there are two types of sunshades.. one that comes close to filling the glass roof perimeter but can have some gaps near the outside edges because it uses clips that slide under the headliner that hold it up. The other type slides under the headliner on all four sides so there is no chance of having gaps between the headliner perimeter and the sunshade.

If you are going to remove your sunshade for the winter, get the type that uses the clips because removing the type that slides under the headliner would probably eventually damage the headliner if you remove and replace the sunshade frequently.

My R1S is currently at 405 Motoring for full XPEL ceramic tint (and PPF). I am doing 70% on the windshield, roof, and all the rear windows with the factory tint to match 20% up on the front sides. Everyone should watch Jonny Lieberman's IG video where he did a side-by-side comparison of his own R1T with the roof tint versus a tester RIS with no tint. The result was a 14deg interior temp difference (per the Rivian App) on a very mild day.

For what it's worth, I purchased this sun shade and even with just the "screen" it has dropped my cabin temperature about 10Âş in the North Texas sun. Typically when I would go out to my truck, the cabin temperature would be in the 120Âş - 130Âş range. Since putting in the screen, it is more in the 110Âş - 120Âş range. The screen is fairly dark, and you can't really see through it, so I will likely add the solid silver layer to increase the solar reflection.

Many places don't want to tint the roof due to possible heat trap and may crack it. I feel like the R1s roof is thinner than my tesla model 3 and extremely hotter as well when touch.

This.

But, I think my upcoming trip to Death Valley in 10 days may change my mind, and I’ll have to get the Xpel 70% on there.

Tell me about it. This summer heat of Texas is making me changing my mind as well. I feel so much heat from the roof.

I just picked mine up from the tint shop. Xpel XR Plus 70% windshield, 20% on all sides, 5% on back window and 55% on glass roof. I wish Rivian had a built in sun shade. That would help with all the heat coming though.

Someone else on forum deserves credit for this find but fits like it was made for it. Tucks between headliner and sunroof easily. Just installed so can’t tell you long term results but seems like it will work great until something better comes along. I think with original electrochromic sunroof design they figured the sunshade was not needed but when they ditched it they didn’t want to go back and redesign for sunshade, unfortunate because it’s needed. For R1S

For the roof, tint on the inside or the outside?
