Hey all, new here and hoping this group can help me out a little bit (sorry in advance for the diatribe). I bought a used 22' R1T Launch Edition a month or so ago and I've had a couple things pop up. I have an appt scheduled with service next week (2/19) and I'm hoping I can help describe a couple of my issues and see if anyone has any additional insights or other threads I'm not finding that I can address or use as help in that appt.
1. Suspension. I've read about the Jounce Line issue, but everything describes a chirping/squeaking sound. I'm getting more of a rattle/click over quick bumps from my front left assembly (didn't notice this in the test drive because been intermittent or particular to the kind of bump it goes over). I've also heard it when I hit some deeper dips in the highway, like when you transition from hwy to bridge, like a quick creak, and rattle. The suspension feels and drives fine, and adjusts height without noises.
I've put in a note on the service bulletin for the jounce lines and expressed the same things as I put above.
2. Tire/Drivetrain noise. I've seen a lot of different things here. When I bought the truck it looked like the previous owner had swapped out two tires and I knew the two front tires probably needed to be replaced. They had tread left, but I did it anyways for a fresh start. Those were the two front tires, and I just replaced with the Pirelli AT's (I'm on the 20" AT) on the front only. The two rear tires are basically new (only down about 1/32" on average) but do have some minor cupping on the inside. I have not rotated them, but plan to have the service center do that across the back. I didn't want to do too much before the service center appt and confuse anything.
Bottom line, when I drive the humming is so loud from 5-45mph (it starts to quiet down or balance out a little when I get up to hwy speeds but still noticeable) that I can't hear the motors (I can hear the motors more at the hwy speeds). The accelerator has a slight vibration in it and when I'm light on the accelerator or decelerating the sound has a pulsating/whirring hum sound. To date, I've thought this is likely due to the cupping in the rear tires and I would rotate it out and try to even the wear back over some time, but since I can't really distinguish where the sound is coming from I feel like it's front end sounding sometimes. I do have a clunk in a front half shaft when decelerating and turning hard to the right and it only happens when it's cold (which they are also going to look at). Does anyone have an opinion on having them look at anything besides the half shafts? I've read about the front drive unit casing having some that were improperly torqued, but I have nothing leaking and when I hear the motors they sound ok to me.
I'm thinking of just having them inspect everything, rotate the two rear tires and run a 4 wheel alignment, but open to other insights this group might have.
Just hoping anyone can add on some thoughts or point me to some potential threads that have brought this up so I can make sure I cover my bases at the service center. Happy to answer any questions for things I didn't think of describing here.
Otherwise, I love the truck and excited to be a part of the community!
