by having a body shop repaint the 2 panels making sure to properly blend into surrounding panels - the blend is critica
You don't repaint a new, undamaged car, and they simply won't have paint like this now.

It is so frustrating to listen to all those Rivian interviews about an autonomous future, robots, AI, etc., while they still can't figure out how to paint a car properly. Is this company a scam or something?

Atrocious. Makes me seriously question QC on the entire vehicle. Nothing less than a perfect match is acceptable on a brand new vehicle. Delivery should have been rejected.

Relax, it’s a simple mistake on a brand new line with a brand new vehicle. It will get taken care of, there’s bigger fish to fry.

I mean, it feels like they don't do any quality checks, like they don't care at all.

If they can’t catch the big obvious visual defects during inspection how are they supposed to catch the small ones? I think that’s the point.

The lack of damage has no bearing on what is required to correct the paint mismatch. The only question is whether the OP allows Rivian to have the paint corrected or whether Rivian buys this vehicle back, corrects the paint, and sells it to someone else.

and what does "they simply won't have paint like this now" even mean?

FYI... everyone likes to believe their new car is virgin but the reality is body repairs happen all the time before a dealership turns over the keys to the first owner.

Rivian R2 Launch Edition
There was another post a few weeks back that half moon was put on hold because the bumpers were the wrong color. The same issue that caused the bumper issues might have popped back up for your door.

This is different though. The doors are painted at the same time as the rest of the body. The front grill panel that was mismatched is painted separately. There was probably shipping damage to the door and the charge port door and they were painted after the fact.

I think I understand why Rivian owner satisfaction scores are so high. People always say that the service center will take care of any issue. So maybe the manufacturing side doesn't really care enough about getting quality right in the first place, with the recent trim glue issue near the windshield being a good example, because they know service will fix it afterward.

At the same time, Rivian's service-center operation seems to work much better. It's different from legacy manufacturers, where customers often don't even want to think about contacting a dealer service department over an issue, while the manufacturing and quality-control processes are generally much better established.
