I am in Utah and can relate. All the Moab pictures and videos really maxes out the anticipation meter. I keep telling myself to take a deep breath and be patient.

Doesn't always work.
Oh, I bet! Those Moab pictures and videos seemed like the stereotypical social media "adventure" post for people who don't know where Moab is.

Total aside - I used to run the Canyonlands Half Marathon every year in Moab and it's a shame what's happened to a once-great race due to poor management.

They need the publicity to get more pre-orders for better forecasting for the IPO.... ;)

Agreed. I think it has less to do with the race management as it has to do with park management. I used to participate in the Lake Powell Triathlon, but after a couple of government shutdowns and cancelled races, it was just never the same. I spoke to the race coordinator and he said that the additional requirements put in by park personnel made it very difficult to put on the race. That was the last year the race was held. Beautiful place to Swim, Bike, Run.

You mean aside from Rivian entering into a deal with Colorado to put their chargers at every single state park? and having that agreement mentioned prominently in announcement about charging their vehicles and the "story" about the same? ;)
While you may have been saying this somewhat in jest, I was more referring to Service Centers, Guide outreach, and the First Mile events. I've seen that announcement and while that's definitely nice to see, it almost makes it worse. Like Svet-am mentioned it feels like a pass-through, as in, they are aware of Colorado but haven't made any announcements regarding anything related to preorder holders. As a side note, I feel for those in Utah as I feel like they are in the same boat.

This law was passed last year in part due to Rivians lobbying, which was the last apparent barrier.

My hope continues to be that everything is in place, so they will be able to move quickly when production is ready. It's possible I have missed it, but I have yet to see a preorder holder contacted that's in Colorado and there are many of us on this forum.

I'm trying to be patient like the rest of us, especially in light of the chip shortages and manufacturing pauses we are seeing (again) from legacy automakers, but damn am I also excited to get my hands on one.

Researchers from Case Western Reserve University found that entitlement typically leads to chronic disappointment; you feel like you deserve certain things, whether tangible or intangible, yet you never get them, so you always leave a situation with unmet expectations

They had to pick a few cities for the first events, and logistics were likely a big part of that. Almost every reservation could come up with reasons why they think they should have been first to get a test drive.

They likely have two teams, each starting near an established Rivian location (LA & Normal) and then traveling from there. An advance team will arrive ahead of time to prepare the venue (build an off-road track, etc), followed by the test drive crews and vehicles.

Just a random thought I had today; It would take 12 test drive locations 6 months operating around the clock at a rate of 1 per hour to accomplish 50K test drives. That being said I believe their is a demand above 50K and for greater total demo time than 1 hour and never desirable at 3AM within the next 6 months. If you, A) Can afford a luxury adventure vehicle and B) Get to test drive said vehicle before you take possession, I think you will be very fortunate as most myself included will not get the opportunity unless the test drive schedule is wildly aggressive or delivery roll out is excruciatingly slow.

So many different ways to calculate this equation. This assumes there is only 1 vehicle per location. My guess is there will be more than just 1.

Some additional detail from the FAQs. Sorry if already posted.

What can I expect during a demo drive?
At our tour events, you’ll have an opportunity to drive on-pavement and off-pavement and experience vehicle acceleration, ascents, descents and light rocky sections, providing you with a well-rounded drive experience.

We’ll also have a number of different configurations and options present for you to explore. You can expect tour events to last about two hours including a 20 minute drive experience highlighting vehicle performance.

During a mobile drive, you’ll experience a Rivian with guidance from of one of our Field Specialists. Mobile drives consist of a vehicle walk-around followed by a 20 minute drive.

For both tour events and mobile drives, you’ll receive an invitation to schedule through your Rivian Account when the opportunity is available in your area.

Can I bring a guest to my demo drive?
Absolutely! You can add up to two guests on your reservation to join you and your Drive Coach at your First Mile experience. Make sure to add them to your reservation in your Rivian Account prior to your scheduled appointment.

If bringing children, a parent or guardian must be present to sign the experience waiver and provide booster or child seats in accordance with state law.

So, who from the CA and NY regions were invited to test drive in September? Seems like Rivian missed that deadline and is just pretending they didn't say that he'd send out invites to multiple regions in September.

Where does it say that?
