Drove from NJ to MA, 180 miles. I charged to 100% just before I left. I didn't think there would be a charger at my destination, so I stopped about 100 miles in and charged to mid 90's during lunch. Think I peaked at about 165kw. It was a Shell Recharge in La Grangeville NY and it worked great.
When I got to the destination, I found there were were 2 (free) chargers that would deliver 6kw. I was there for 3 days and it was quite cold, so I charged a good chunk of the time I was there but thought I wouldn't have any issue at all getting home so just left it at 85% and didn't charge any further just before I left.
After a couple of quick stops in the town in which we were staying, I got in the car to come home. I put in a stop at trader Joe's, which is on the way home, 12 miles closer, so about 160 miles away. Truck said I had about 230 miles of range, but it said I wouldn't make it in all-purpose mode without charging. Temp was about 28 degrees.
So I selected conserve mode and drove the speed limit or a bit more, and also hit some traffic. It was a mix of interstate driving and some state roads/highways. We didn't use the cabin heat much for the first 100 miles but then we seemed to be doing very well so cranked up the heat.
Got to trader joes (12 miles from home) and had 59 miles of range in conserve mode. For the ride home from TJ's, switched to all purpose mode and made it home with 30+ miles to spare. This screen grab is the combined trip of 171 miles in conserve, and 12 in all purpose.
Lessons for me are conserve really does conserve
. And if you have an available charger and are about to embark on a long trip, might as well charge to close to 100% if you'll be leaving during the charge session, even if you think you have plenty of range to spare.
