I'd like to recommend that we create an FAQ for the R1. Basically, a list of things to know/learn about an R1. New owners can come and read and learn all the stuff that has taken some of us weeks/months to discover. We can also keep a list of running changes to the R1. Maybe this exists somewhere on this page and I just haven't found it yet?

If the mods don't have time, then I am happy to create and manage the FAQ, but I'd need everyone to chime in on what they have learned/discovered.

The recent "what my dog taught me" seatbelt post made me think about the need for something like this. Many other car forums I have been on over the years have maintained something like this and it was super helpful for quick learning.

I'll chime in on my experience at the car wash which I posted elsewhere on this forum but will do so again on this thread. I put my R1T in car wash mode and gave the card key to the attendant and went to the waiting room. A few minutes later the attendant came in and said he was locked out with the card key inside the truck. I said no problem I have another key on my phone. The long and short of it I could not unlock it and finally called Rivian and they could not unlock it remotely. After a long while of the techs trying to figure this out they asked me if the seat belt was fastened and I thought why would they do that but I asked anyway and sure enough the attendant said he did fasten it. When I asked why he told me some modern cars and especially EVs will not stay in neutral without the drivers seat belt fastened so when they get a high-end vehicle and/or EV they fasten the seat belt. The Rivian techs told me the only other option is to get another key to try and open it and if that didn't work they will send a flat bed out. I had the manager drive me home to get my key fob and that opened it while the phone key would not. My truck was blocking the entrance to the car wash for at least 45 minutes and everyone took it in good stride. The Rivian tech told me that when the driver seat belt is fastened the truck thinks it is being driven and will not unlock with the phone key.

An FAQ would be a great idea. Although I imagine it would be a nightmare to keep it “clean”. SOME of us tend to get off topic or post smart ass comments and memes. ?

Why is everyone looking at me? ?

I can understand not wanting to allow the app to control a vehicle which is being driven/has a driver in the seat. Given what many other people have complained about when lifting off the seat to look back while reversing (vehicle goes into Park) I don’t understand why Rivian would use the seat belt buckled sensor and not the weight on driver’s seat sensor to make that determination. Then a key locked in a vehicle with a buckled seat belt won’t fool the vehicle into thinking it’s occupied. Unless the car wash person also leaves their bowling ball on the seat.
