Because it’s not a PR stunt. Because towing reduces range significantly and not efficient use of business hours for the test crew. This wasn’t a press event. Just a business going about its business and probably using a contractor to transport a test and evaluation unit. Plus, electrification is never about being fully green and completely displacing ICE (impossible and impractical). It’s about being more green.why are they being towed by an ICE truck? Couldn't they flatbed the truck in tow by another Rivian truck? Not great PR - unless of course it's not done by Rivian...
Perhaps they (Rivian) simply called a tow service that was available in the area of the trail where the failure happened?why are they being towed by an ICE truck? Couldn't they flatbed the truck in tow by another Rivian truck? Not great PR - unless of course it's not done by Rivian...
It was not implied this was a PR stunt. How far were they moving the truck? what makes the ICE more efficient if the event is under 50 miles from their base, even with a doubling of the electricity use, that would still leave enough range. And as I mentioned, if the event is not by Rivian, then it's fully understandable as it's not from the maker of the car being testedBecause it’s not a PR stunt. It seems to me that if we ever get the option for that winch and bumper it will be with a complete spec refresh. If Rivian won't provide for or let current owners, who they forced into manual covers, retrofit the new auto tonneau cover, they are highly unlikely to make this available to us.I saw this truck a few months ago when I was off road in the eastern sierra. Want a factory winch and a stronger bumper so badly!
It is a bit lame. They could have chosen to flatbed it with a gas vehicle as well to avoid being parked at a charger constantly next to other Rivian owners asking a million questions.Perhaps they (Rivian) simply called a tow service that was available in the area of the trail where the failure happened?
I'm sure they've tried to utilize the existing structure. It would be poor business sense to alienate 30-50k worth of customers. It seems to me that if we ever get the option for that winch and bumper it will be with a complete spec refresh. And if they did, it would likely be around $10k.
Inside jobI love how phone cameras nowadays have like a billion pixels, but whenever someone posts some important picture, it looks like it was taken from some Blackberry in the 90s.
