Took two more test drives today to drive the 20’s and 21’s back to back. They finally have the Esker paint sample in. It is indeed blueish.

Here’s the sample against the R2 in HMG. Midday full ☀

What was your takeaway from driving the two wheel options back-to-back?
I drove them over identical stretches, all purpose, firm. I liked the 21’s better and it entirely comes down to the rubber.

With the windows down the AT’s are LOUD. THE 21’s were practically silent by comparison. The Pirelli's also felt more sure-footed and less squidgy.
I thought I had changed my mind to go 21 - and the drive reinforced that + I like the look better, but the Rivian rep here, great guy, was pretty adamant I should go with the 20’s for several reasons, chiefly mileage once I put non-AT rubber on them and the broader range of choices. He trotted out an extra wheel to compare them. Caveat: He's owned EV's for several years, currently has a Model Y - on his next buy he said he was going to step down to 18's - partly for range but MOSTLY because of the $$$ of replacing 20's-21's. FWIW.

If I was getting a Performance model, that's exactly what I would do--live with the 20" ATs for a few years, then when it's time to replace them, there are a handful of A/S choices. Although, while folks point out that the 20" replacement tires are cheaper, you are paying $1000 extra upfront for that choice.

That is what I am doing. Love the look of the 20" wheels more anyways and bigger sidewall = better IMO. The 21" are goofy wheels

It must just be the camera angle (and the fact that there's no weight on it), but in that last pic, the 21" seems to have a larger overall tire diameter.

Oi- I have... no bueno. But withe the windows down - that whine spoils it.
Depends on your hearing I guess. It doesn't bother me and I have owned ATs before. Plus, with the amount of SoCal traffic we have here... windows down means you're breathing in crap. When I was younger and lived in the PNW, I almost never used AC. And almost always had windows down, unless winter. The opposite since moving. Windows-up is almost a must. For me and my hearing, the hum from the factory Pirelli ATs are there with windows up, but only if I pay specific attention to it.

I thought I had settled on the 21s but seeing that the 20s aren’t as dark as I thought th are back in the mix.
